There are many, many fantastic coins on this forum. A few notables in my eyes: - @rrdenarius 's plumbobs - @stevex6 's Tarentum nomos - @Nicholas Molinari 's new EL hemihekte - @IdesOfMarch01 's Three Sisters, Travel series aurei, and his Cleopatra denarius - @dougsmit 's shooting daric - @TIF 's Agathokles tetradrachm - @Carthago 's Sextus Pompey denarius - @ancientnut 's Lucania set, Maroneia tetradrachm and Messanas - @I_v_a_n 's winged hekte - @Zohar444 's Agathokles tetradrachm - @Theodosius 's Clazomenae, Maroneia, and Rhegium tetradrachms - @Ardatirion 's numerous lead - @Carausius 's Spinther denarius - @Cucumbor 's Mark Antony denarius - @Volodya 's Capitoline and Cleopatra denarii
I have been enjoying @FitzNigel 's book reviews... I know very little in his areas of focus (Medieval - LOL, OK I call 'em DARK AGES just to get his goat!) However, since I only have a cursory knowledge of this rich period, I have been on the prowl for a book or two to enlighten me.
A good book for a general approach of medieval coins @Alegandron, i do have the french version, much more easy to read IMO Q
LOL, ANYTHING of @Carthago 's Yeah, I remember when he really started posting on CT. There were few of us (@Bing , etc.) that were talking Roman Republic... then Carthago, @Volodya starting pounding in some wonderful coins! I enjoy their posts and their write-ups! Great stuff. I am sorry that I did not meet @Volodya at the Chicago Coin Show a month or so ago... had a family issue that took me away. Carthgo posted...
LOL, you are still an inspiration! Hmmmmmmmm... You are a master of the English language...now if I can gitya ta speak American (although you get it purdy well)... Does the French Version have Google Translate when I touch the hardbound book pages???
Pretty much any coin that @Ancientnoob posts. I always get a kick out seeing coins outside of the usual Roman/Greek, and many I would like snag. Same with @medoraman. Always drool over @TIF Alexandrian Tets. @dougsmit has several Severan Tets. and Domna alexandrian mint denarii I never get tire of seeing. Always wanted this coin of Randys.
here's one of @Mat that caught my eye! this lady is on the list and the color is great! i went looking at old threads and found this coin, @Loong Siew a cool coin of hadrians boyfriend!
I've seen so many in just a few months... narrowed it down to people who haven't been mentioned yet: @Sallent's Istros drachm @alde's Cnut: @Orfew's Theophilus (love his Brutus too): @Curtisimo's Athenian tet (when do we get to see it freed from its plastic prison?): and @iamtiberius's Eukratides tet:
@FitzNigel's Eleanor: @lordmarcovan's pseudo-Rhodian: @TypeCoin971793's arch-foot spade: @Eduard's Dancing Man of the Ubii: and @Julius Germanicus's Gordian I sest:
@AncientJoe If you ever decide to sell that aureus, please keep me on your list. I love numismatic atrifacts from history's greatest disasters.
Thanks @Severus Alexander ! I know I need to bust her out of there but for now the plastic is convenient storage until I upgrade my camera and develop a better storage strategy I am rather fond of this intimidating hulk of an Octadrachm that lives in your collection! 93g and 46mm!!!! Wow!
Some of my favorites, though I am not entirely sure who owns which. ? @Sallent ? @TIF @TIF @TIF ? ? @Ancientnoob ?
I've admired this coin from @dougsmit's collection since I began collecting Roman coins 14 years ago. Proof that you don't always need an EF coin to find beauty.
You guys are far too kind. Thanks for the mentions. I'm glad some of you like a few of the coins from my humble little collection. Here are a few I really like from others. Not all are necessarily superb specimens, but I like them because they have "style" or "character." I keep hoping @stevex6 will upgrade this coin (if that's even possible) and decides to offer it to me. @iamtiberius Claria Didrachm has me enthralled. Just look at that perfectly preserved nose, wow! @Cucumbor 's Pompey might not be the most perfect example of this coin out there, but look at the style of that portrait of Pompey the Great! It is so good that it really resembles some of the busts for Pompey that are in existence. Compare! vs. I think @Orfew 's Galba has a lot of character, and it could have been mine. I saw it on FORVM, and I snoozed and lost out on it. And the Hispania reverse really tugs at my heart. My ancestors could have used that coin.
I could go on forever in this thread (as could we all) but here are 7 more: @Magnus Maximus's Theodosius II miliarense: @Valentinian's Commodus tet: @Brian Bucklan's Julius Nepos: @panzerman's Faustina aureus: @4to2centBC's Mithrapata (Lycia): @red_spork's silver sestertius: and @Nicholas Molinari as grave:
