We got stuck in Hawaii. Not a bad place to be but I'll go back to Japan to get the thread moving again.
Skip to a neighboring country. French Indochina used to comprise what is now Vietnam, Lao and Cambodia.
Cambodia, 1953 with the Centime denomination later changed to Sen. (A bit of overlap. I didn't t realize it until I uploaded the photo to post)
Come in this direction a few hundred km, here is a 1990 commemorative 10 baht with Princess Mother Srinagarinda on the obverse. Nice big coin. Do I need to say Thailand?
Back to Thailand we go. This is a whopper of a coin at 61.03 grams of fine silver It is certainly one of the most oddly shaped. These large coins are called Chieng-city money. This one was minted in Chieng-sen between AD 1300-1545 for the Lannathai kingdom of Thailand. These coins are valued at 4 Baht. and 4 Baht equals a Tamelung. These coins are highly faked and often available as tourist trinkets but the real deal is rather hard to come by. I bought this one & it changed hands between another CT ancient coin forum dude & myself (once or twice). I keep it for now.
