From Aruba, we can make a straight line to the US Virgin Islands, which up to 1917 were the Danish West Indies. Here's a 12 skilling from 1767:

 

... and from USA Virgin Islands to British Virgin Islands.

 

Puerto Rico is right next door

 

Bermuda must be around there somewhere......

 

Head east to Azores

 

Probably a 1000 miles north but with nothing in between. From Bermuda it is probably possible to go to almost any country in the Atlantic.
