I recently got one that looks just like that in a mixed batch! It looks like some some "clever" person dipped the normal bronze strike in gold paint and put a nice shellac finish on top
A BU one. I think they were bronze. I usually expect bronze to look more like copper but I got a Mozambique bronze Escudo recently that is almost yellow.
Since we're sharing our Katanga stories, here's mine. I got this one as a gift from a military friend; however, someone decided to put solder on the back. That made my OCD kick in and I therefore had to get a better one. 1961 1-franc, copper and tin (bronze) - KM 1 As luck would have it (for me), some ebay seller was either going out of business or just wanted to unload a slew of coins. I purchased over 400 coins from him at a very low cost. Among that mother load, were two Kantagas - the following 1961 one and five francs (both bronze - KM 1 & 2).
