Fair point, but as you correctly pointed out, statistics cannot be looked at in a vacuum. It may sharpen the picture if I can find statistics on median net worth. It would be my suspicion that net worth has also trounced inflation. I'll see what i can dig up.
I certainly agree the Great Recession shattered many families, it was the worst financial crisis since the depression. I just don't think it was the beginning of an unrecoverable downward spiral.
