Great example of a fantastic coin type @AncientJoe ! I really love @zumbly 's example as well. I notice that both coins have a similar iridescent toning. Is that a coincidence? Could they be from the same hoard?
Very good, I think it's truly spectacular! Centered, well struck great design and the list could go on and on. Very glad you were finally able to "own" it. A great addition to your already marvelous collection.
I'm glad to have encouraged a fellow labyrinth to be acquired! The bronze examples are often indecipherable and yours is very nice.
A truly beautiful stater, and well worth chasing. It's a very interesting point: there's a decent likelihood that they'd be from the same hoard, as well as being made from similar source of silver which might have more of a tendency to tone delicately.
Thanks! It's probably unwise at times for me to be so particular but I'm glad when the "right" coin ends up coming home.
Thanks for sparing me some pain! (and I'm glad to see you more on these boards as well, recognizing your username from the PCGS forums).
That is an excellent coin. That must be an amazing feeling bringing it home after a decade. The longest I've waited is two years for this CA triens, overstruck on Oiniadai, Akarnania, ex @stevex6, ex RBW and ex Knobloch. Full thread here. I'm a big fan of overstrikes and this in my opinion is one of the overall best eye appeal examples of this common overstrike, much better than the usual completely ruined examples you come across. I had to have this one when it came back on the market, but I hate the circumstances that allowed me to bid on it. At any rate, it is a keeper for me and is probably one of the last coins I'd ever sell. Roman Republic Æ Triens(20mm, 5.88g, 12h), anonymous("CA" series), 209-195 B.C., Canusium(?) mint. All those coins you folks have been waiting for so long are exceptional : big congrats to you all ! I have been waiting for that specific coin during four years, and been outbid three times before I could acquire it. One of the coins I sold in 1974 when poverty was in full force was a denarius of Divus Pertinax. I always wanted to replace it but it has never happened. Closest I have come is this after-cast fake of a sestertius I got in 2001 as a space filler. They come up every year or two but not in my price bracket.
