Very well said, fatima. As John Muir (my avatar) said, "Nothing dollarable is safe." The issue is not with those who ordered the allowed 5 sets. It is with those who circumvented the intentions of the Mint and, in effect, cheated others out of the chance to have a set or some sets. We are all in this hobby together and should treat 1 another accordingly. There is enough dog-eat-dog behavior in life; it would be nice to have at least 1 refuge from it. No; I am not whining because I didn't get a set. I did order and receive 1 set. I may be in the minority, but I collect coins because I actually enjoy the coins for what they are and what they represent. The future value or whether or not they will be a "winner" is of little importance to me. If I like the coin for whatever reason, I like the coin. It's too bad that so many things have to be reduced to their monetary worth and lead people to disrespect others because of it.
Here's the chart for single unsealed sets: chart doesn't start until 11/13 because by the time I started it, ebay data older then 15 days was gone. 1417 total sets
Just wanted to say that I really appreciate the work you're putting into those charts Steven. A picture really is worth a thousand words.
StevenF - thanks so much - Seems to me that the downtrend has tapered and we may be settling in to an average price. However, may see a little more downward movement on the NGC graded sets as they start to come back but I don't think much if at all. I think $1550 is going to be the price for 70s for a few months.
Yes StevenF bravo sir! I know it has to be a lot of work but I would love to see those charts in another year to two to see how things pan out! Nicely done. J
What can I add? These guys said it all. That's an incredible amount of work, Steve, and we're all grateful for it.
Steve, you are giving it your all. I really appreciate those charts and I don't even own one set. If anything, you are giving me hope that they may become affordable in the secondary market. Perhaps you are saving others from over paying as well. To practice patience has its reward. Thanks.
Speaking of over paying - here's an eBay auction that just closed at $1,975 for an NGC70 set, while the same sets were going unsold for $1,470 yesterday afternoon...amazing!
Of course you do, guano, of course you do. And I'm sure they're stacked to the ceiling and in every hall and if we asked nicely you could provide us with tomorrow's lotto numbers because you ARE the most interesting man on this board.
Several NGC MS/PF70 A25 sets have sold in the $1,370 - $1,380 range tonight. Looks like a $25 to $50 reduction in auction price results on average per day. Also, the number of open "2011 silver eagle set" eBay auctions is currently 1,316 which is up over 100 from yesterday.
And yet a PCGS MS70/PR70 FS set just went for $2,525 which is way above what they've been selling for. Crazy market to attempt to sell into, or even buy into. I have a slightly different search term and it's bringing back 1,731 results, which as with yours, is far and away the biggest number so far.
I'm sure I'll be banned from this site long before then..but... Melt on the set could be $400 by then. Melt right now is $165 give or take a few dollars. I'll take the bet that opened sets will be able to be bought for less than 125% more than melt on Ebay.
