Cool and much more affordable, they would have sold very many smaller sized RP Gold Buffalo's. On another note Modern Coin Mart just sent an email saying something like get on our list for special price's of these RP's.

Just to keep things in perspective for those who are obsessed with mintages and premiums, the 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Eagle sold a total of 115,000; 28,000 on the first day and 42,000 in the first week.

The premium over spot on the first day of sale was $329.oo. On a percentage basis, the premium on the Gold Eagle was much higher than the Reverse Buffalo.

Therefore, the sales numbers and initial premium on the Gold Buffalo Reverse Proof should really not surprise anyone.

Oh and by the way, the Ultra High Relief Eagle is still very alive and very well. That was also a first-of-its-kind coin that was projected to be very well-received.

Dang...you done took the fun out of this thread....:D

Oh and by the way, the Ultra High Relief Eagle looks 1,000 times better than this Buffalo.

Sorry, Chief. I didn't want to clutter this thread with facts, but something just got the best of me.

I agree with you on the Ultra High Relief; it is a classic beauty. The Buffalo is nice, but it looks more contrived and CGI-like, but I still like it and may get it anyway.

:D I think the Chief is on to something about maybe these RP's selling below release price, many speculaters/flipper's. When thing's start to go south ( gold price drop ) or to many seller's, down the price will come. ;) I may stay on the sideline's for a few week's. :p

Ya know, we really haven't seen a "good" photo of these Buffalos. Heck, they might not look so good once in hand. I've seen the word "FUGLY" more than once in describing these.

For those obsessed with mintages the Mint has a counter for these.....21,009 so far.

I wish I had the money when the UHR Gold Eagle came out. I wanted one, but just couldn't swing it.

Yes, and I would have preferred a high relief over a rp buffalo.

Still, makes a man sad when the only attractive coins the mint can think up nowadays are gimmicky rehashes of a coin first struck 100 years ago. A full century and our artists are not even as good today as they were then?

I don't know that they can't, but as long as people keep buying these at the volume they're buying, why would they change?

Ordered 1 today. The price might go up on wed. I thought about getting more than 1, but changed my mind.

I will wait for auction prices and if I get one fine if not there will be one later someone is going to sell one at a good price I hope or I will just move on.

The US mint website image looks barely different then the usual. I want to buy one but not if it will look the same. Are there any better photos anywhere someone could show me? Also, do you think to buy one and flip would be good. Even if I net $200 I would be happy.

I went ahead and ordered one since it is the first of it's kind but will probably get the regular proof as well.
