Perhaps he means "Over-done" as in the sense it's nothing new, just another repeat of a coin that has been sold before. As opposed to "Over-done" as by an elaborate un-necessary design change or added gimmick. (I think?) Personally, I will need to see it in hand before passing any judgment on appearance.
My opinion only, but the reverse proof is the nicest looking ASE they've made. That, along with a new finish makes me believe there is a very slim chance the SF set has better returns in the long run, and by slim, I'd say 5 to 1 that the 2013W realizes higher selling prices next year and 5 years from now and 20 years from now. After that, I probably won't be here to state my opinion...so I mostly don't care... Look at it this way. You can get a reverse proof in 4 different sets the US Mint has sold, you can get the enhanced uncirculated in 1, or one if you prefer...just saying...
Fear not, the 'Enhanced Uncirculated' ASE will NOT be a one of a kind. The mint will milk this for all it's worth.
rick and PP, I think you are both partially correct. Next year the Mint will do an Enhanced Silver Eagle with a Buffalo privy. That way, they can exploit the Enhanced Eagle, but still keep it as a 1-of-a-kind. It is a neat little trick they will have learned from the Perth Mint and the RCM. Then, to really create a feeding frenzy among gullible U. S. collectors, they will only produce 10,000 of them and charge a sky-high premium for them. I like that idea so much I think I might apply for a job at the Mint next week, if they allow people to work remotely.
Well my shipping date hasn't changed for a couple weeks. Trouble is, my shipping date is 7/19. Today's the 21st. It had to have been a Mint customer that coined the phrase "patience is a virtue".
Yea, but that 2012 S set has (2) unique coins and us collector's like something new ! What happens if they never ever mint another SanFrancisco Silver Eagle ever ? BOOOM ~ What I mean by over-done is that is that the (W) mint mark is nothing new, I agree the reverse proof silver eagle's are very sharp. What we want next year is a (2) coin set from the Denver Mint
My ship date of 7/18 held true, and I'm tickled to report that the coins arrived today, and that they are GORGEOUS! Hang in there!
Next year, a 'D' reverse ASE.......I'm buyin' if it ever happens. I'm a sucker for these danged things........
Interesting, my set was supposed to ship last Friday. No tracking number, no charge put through and no notice about it's status or change of delivery date. It seems the Mint has taken an unannounced holiday and closed their doors.
from the sounds of the grades on these things it looks like there are going to be plenty of 70s out there. Glad i didnt shoot for one of those. My set from the mint should be here tomorrow! Yippeeee
I gave up and just cancelled my mint order. I got two sets from the Philly gift shop and really couldn't justify a third set, plus, I quite frankly got tired of waiting.
My ship date moved to 7/19 but it hasn't shipped either. I'm not sure that I've seen the mint move up a date and then not ship before. They treading in new territory.
I ordered mid-month. At first shipping was set for early August, got bumped back to mid September, and is now back to August 9th.
If anyone sees a good deal on the sets let me know. I sold a few, have one at PCGS and one on backorder. So I'm kinda missing them now. Thanks!
