The mint will wait till the pricing/timing is just right (expensive) in the silver markets, then post them for sale at a nice salty price. They like to milk us for all we're worth. Yeahhhhh! :hail:, the 25th anniversary of buying undesirable silver bullion glorified into a shiny status symbol. I do love me some REVERSE PROOF though..... Count me in, I'm hooked and guilty of 5th degree silvereagleitis.
Rest assured the Mint does not act in the best interest of the citizens/customers. In 2006, a person had to purchase 2 "I could care less coins" (the burnished and the proof) to get the coin that really made the difference (the reverse proof). This year they think so little of the consumer they will have us purchase 4 "I could care less coins" to get the reverse proof. Plus, we will be paying for the "special" presentation case. If the Mint truly cared about their customers and wanted to do a good thing, they would offer the reverse proof on its own, just as they do the other 4 "been there, done that" coins. I'm not just picking on the U. S. Mint, as those of other countries act in similar fashions. I just wish we could organize a successful movement to make it/them more customer-concerned. Rather than purchasing a bunch of coins I don't really want, I think I might wait until the reverse proofs go on sale on ebay.
The only problem with going the eBay route for the reverse proof coin is that the price probably won't be far from the price of the 5 coin set from the mint.
You could well be right, Charlie. If the 2006 reverse is any indication, the 2011 will sell for about $200.00 on ebay on an individual basis. I'm thinking between $375.00 and $400.00 for the entire set. So, if the other 4 coins are worth about $50.00 on average to a person, that would be the way to go. To me personally, they definitely would not be, as they don't offer anything out of the ordinary.
Hey Ken, how's it goin? I agree, but twas nice to think about anyway. A 25% drop in silver, yet the price the mint will charge for this set probably won't change a bit. The thing that will change is the amount everyone will be able to get for those other 3 coins in the set. That's what will drop.
Hey Charles. Things going nicely at the moment..... I think the keys will be the San Fran (S) and the reverse proof. Everything else you can pick up piecemeal.
I'm chompin at the bit for the San Fran Burnish, the reverse proof will be a highlight but that San Fran is going to be the key! Wanna bet on it?
as far as a key goes, there will be the same number of both coins produced (reverse proof vs. S-mint burnished), so I think that they will both be sought after and very limited. That said, I agree that the S-mint burnished coin will be more of a novelty at first and therefore might command the better price... at first. Over all, the reverse proof will be the eventual winner unless they never make another S-mint burnished coin again.
Is there an exact release date/time yet? I need t budget away. Pucks and 25th Anniv. sets will put me in the poor house
I haven't seen anything on the release date other than what they said in the Press Release back on August 19th. "The United States Mint expects to begin accepting orders in late October." http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/?action=press_release&id=1276 Right now they are probably just hoping that the price of silver jumps back up prior to the release date.
I'm sure they've already struck some of these, and at a higher silver price. I wonder which ones are struck first? So yeah, they'll sit and wait till the price is right, BOB BARKER!!!!! oops I mean Drew Carey
I'm trying to set my budget at about 400 just in case and hopefully I won't have much trouble getting a set.
