ok this might just fuel the fire and im sorry if it does, but going thru all the things that people are upset with the mint about
number 1. the 100,000 limit being too low- if it wasnt as low as it is it wouldnt be as popular I for one like getting something that i can say there is only 100k of.(and if every one has one is it really worth collecting)
number 2. (this is going back a few pages) the price of 300 being too high.. really? its if anything too low if it was $400 might not have sold out so fast and more people could get atleast one
number 3. the 5 limit being too much.. i think this plus the 100k limit brought a lot of new faces to the table(including my brother) yah some will sell them all but i think a lot will keep atleast 1 and some (like my brother) will continue to collect more which the more people collecting the more demand for better coins which gets you more coins to collect
number 4. the slow computer system.. have nothing for this, Mint please work on it lol
thank you and sorry if this upset any one

I count four threads on the 25th anniversary set, so I hope this gets noticed being posted here. What is the deal with the TPGs requiring unopened shipping containers for grading purposes? It kind of puts a person in a bind.

I got five sets. I want to keep one OGP sell the others down the road when I feel I need the cash. But, it seems that there is more value to holding them unopened, because that way they could still be graded.

I just can't see myself not opening that box. Nor can I see myself footing the bill to have them graded. So, I think there is no way I'm going to be able to sell them unopened. Plus there is the issue Green brought up. How do you know you have all five sets in the box until you open it? Hmmmm... this could involve quantam mechanics.

What are the odds that the TPGs will change their grading policy after they've gotten all the unopened boxes graded?

Well.... You haven't really made anything until you send the sell the set to someone else and they pay you for it. If 95% of the buyers are flippers, 95,000 sets. And say the 5 major on-line vendors are buying 2000 sets each, 10,000 sets, then you have a lot of competition to get in on any of these deals. If the mint was bad to deal with to acquire the coins, then selling them if this is the case is going to be another level of pain if this is truly the competition.

IMO, the hype was so bad on this coin, that most of the buyers this time were coin flippers vs the 2006 set where it wasn't anywhere close to this. I bought a set for myself and don't plan to sell it so it doesn't affect me, but for those looking for some quick cash, the real work hasn't started yet. If 95% of the buyers are coin flippers, it's the ones who can unload the coins the fastest who will make some money. After that, you will be competing with the on-line vendors who will have slabbed the only two valuable coins in the set.

You've been cranky about this set since the thread started. Did you not get one or what? How often does Apmex offer a $625 profit to buyers before the issue is even sold out from the mint at issue price? When silver hits $60 an ounce, then the issue price will become melt value. May not be that far off. I believe in 5 to 10 years, the issue price for this set will be a joke because of how relatively cheap it was.

95% were purchased to flip? That seems a little extreme. Even if 50% were purchased to flip, you dont think there's 50k people in the world willing to buy on the secondary market? Soon there will be 7 billion people on earth. I think you're under-estimating the numbers a bit. There could be 50k coin shops that want one.

I bought five. The original goal was to keep at least two and filp three. I'm not sure I'll be interested in selling any though. It will take a strong price to get me to want to let any go. Yes, there will be many people who need to flip them to make a quick buck. I'm not one of them. I'm sure many others have purchased to stash them away as well. Honestly, I did want two sets. If the order limit would have been 2 per household, I would have bought them and been happy. Time will tell where these settle at. But I'm telling you melt value alone will be creeping up there.

The mint lost a cool mil just by silver going up a couple bucks the day they went on sale!! What can happen in 5 years?

Did you even read my post? If you did, you wouldn't have needed to ask that question. It's a shame you took the opportunity to cast an insult, rather than address the point of my post which you responded to, but apparently didn't read.

Interesting dynamic on this thread. Lots of gloaters, some sour grapes, lots of back and forth sniping at each other.

All in all, I've got to say this event has brought out the worst in some people; and exposed a rather ugly side of the hobby.

I agree, and is rather disappointing. Whether we got our order in or not, we need to keep this in perspective. There are more coins out there! If you didn't get one of these sets, oh well, there are more. I will also say if you are upset, write your message, and leave it there for a while, and see if you feel the same way then. There is no need to make enemies over something as trivial as this.

I'm not into the profit angle as much as many are. But I collect three sets of everything so I tend to buy two extra sets to sell to pay for or just off-set the cost of the three I keep. I always say that I am not going to be the one paying for my coin collecting obsession. At least that is how I rationalize it to my wife. :D
