Just for reference, the highly popular Lincoln Chronicles set, for $59, took 30 hours to sell out. There were 50,000 sets produced.
Don't forget that limit was 1 per household. I think they will be sold out within a few hours (but hopefully it will take a few days so everyone has a chance). I will be online trying at 12, dealing with the crashes, and getting frustrated. I don't want to take a chance on missing this one, since I plan to keep one as a birth set for my son.
I think it will take a few days to sell out, gotta figure with as many people who are going to order 5 sets per order for whatever reason the sellout should happen pretty quickly. Now if I may think out loud a bit... 100,000 total available, figure with many people ordering 5 and just as many ordering just 1, figure an average of 2.5 sets per order leaves us with approx. 40,000 orders till sellout... I'm thinking 75,000 are gone before the weekend and will be sold out by Tuesday following the release. Although take into consideration the Lincoln Cronicles set which had a 50,000 mintage with 1 per household we very well could see a sellout by the weekend... $.02 J
I don't see the advantage in getting on the Mint website at noon. It seems to go against good sense, as you are just adding to the clogging of the pipe. It will take you longer to get an order through than if you waited a while. Everyone talks about the site crashing, but do they realize they are the people who are contributing to it? I guess there are those who just like the thrill of the hunt. I waited about 2 hours for each of the 5 2010 uncirculated pucks and didn't have any backup. It's similar to going to a baseball game and then leaving the parking lot afterwards. You can leave right away and be in traffic with everyone else or wait 20 minutes to leave and, in reality, get home in a shorter amount of time.
Personally with something like this I would prefer that the mint limit it to one set per household at least for the first month. As a strategy, though, I am thinking they want a quick sellout for the free press it will generate. Either way I don't care. I just need one set for my one month old. I may buy a second for myself, I will have to see. Chris
When we wake up Friday morning these sets will be gone.........:hail:....bye-bye......................
those are nice. i have AN ungraded 2011 AGE BURNISHED. but those are not from an anniversary set with a reverse AGE.
Here is my 2011 AGE and i through in a couple of his buddies. if you hold the cursor over photo it blows up. few modest coins no biggie
I don't think I'll buy one. Even though I really like the coins, and could realize a profit, they really don't fit anywhere in my collection, and spending on these means spending less somewhere else. I somewhat regret buying the Hot springs 5 Oz (as it also doesn't fit in, even though it is a nice one of a kind "coin"), and will try not to make the same mistake twice.
I agree, i just started collecting and i have way to many spots to fill with old coins. thats why i try to stay away from modern coins. but i do want 1 ASE 25th set.
those do look nice in PCGS holders. I use to be big on NGC, but lately i like the PCGS holders. looks cleaner.
Same! I also had the experience of holding a Morgan in a PCGS holder and viewing it from the side, the slab is cleaner and more slim than I remembered. And then I remembered premiums, too! (only if grading am I happy with them.) I used to buy mostly NGC, it seems like their slabs get scratched more and the prongs get in my photos.
You are right on the mark here. It still won't deter me from helping my fellow numismatists execute a flawless DOS attack which has been months in the planning. Show some team spirit already!
I thought they shipped orders out in the order they were received? That could be one benefit to getting in early. First order numbers go out first. Not sure how many days, weeks, you would gain though.
Fati, Thank you for your wishes of good luck. In 2006, i had lost my job, was behind on my mortgage and looking for a way to feed my family. I enlisted 10 friends to buy the limit of 10 sets per household and ended up with 100 sets of the 3 coin silver eagles. I flipped them at various times over the years. Many sets I had graded and was blessed with many 70 sets. My friends were all repaid for thier initial investment and I was able to put food on the table for many months. I was truely blessed. Now, in 2011, I've lost my house and moving from friend to friend so that I don't become to much of a burden. If these new sets can help me get through the winter, I'll be truly blessed again. You once called me greedy. I am. Greedy to recapture the diginity I once had. All the best to those who will ride this adventure along with me.
No house, homeless, hungry young'uns to feed, wandering around like a refugee from the Grapes of Wrath, yet you got time to make 1373 posts on a coin and bullion forum? LOL
