With bullion going up, up, and more up, seems a lot more people (myself included) will get priced out of these newer issues...
It will make even older coins go up too. I usually bottom surf TPG 69 slabbed coins for deals, (sometimes possible to find for less than spot) but even these have mostly dried up now too.

The first three (3) FS issues sold out at 40,000. The prices folks paid for those were almost half what they are today. Since they're so plentiful...and folks are abandoning the FS series in droves...I wonder if some of those may eventually get melted down. Perhaps not the Jefferson since it's part of the Liberty series...but the Martha Washington and Abigail Adams...they could see some meltage. :kewl: Edit: ...or some rough handling, anyway. My Brother-in-Law bought some foreign gold coins a while back. Among them were about 40 beautiful 1930 Uraguay 5 peso coins...just loose in tubes! I nearly soiled myself when I saw how he had them stored! I suspect there are a lotta folks these days that buy gold coins for the bullion and have no idea how to store them.
the 40,000 mintage or total 120,000 pieces of three first spouses were one of the most profitable bullion gold coins. the original buyers were all make money. you can make as much as 50% to 100%. the latter part of the series were even hard to make money.
Interesting! That thread predates my initial CT lurking. Don't know what to make of it. Melting bullion coins seems counter intuitive to me...but it happens. I can see them melting down the ones won't don't grade at least MS69/PF69.
