I too think the 5oz coins are silly childs play, this is for people who buy from the Franklin mint haha I dont get why the US mint would make them!
The other sad part, either everyone will hate them (I hope so... they are stupid) and then in 20 years they will be worth a ton, or people will love them (prob so, they are stupid) and the mint will make a lot of cash off them. I would say more like 150-200$
At that price, I wonder how many of them will sell in an economy like this. That aside, I feel as if 5oz coins are a little excessive…why not stick with just 1oz like ASE…which we didn’t get this year.
Not to mention... how the hell do you display a freaking 5 oz coin. Does not really sit well in a pcgs holder. lol, I like my investments small, gold, diamonds, etc. nice to be able to fit it in your hand and not have it be the size of a small dinner plate. *shakes fist!!!** give me my 2009 ASE and worry about the silly 5oz another time! Almost feels like the mint is punishing us... *tisk tisk* you bought too many 09 eagles, no proofs for you greedy little scrubs!
*LOL* I know, and to get rid of the AGE fractionals on top of that! There's no way I could afford 1 oz of gold...not now with the price of gold. :crying:
The Mint is also coming out with 2 new Comm. Coins 1. Americans Disabled Veterans Comm Coin 2. Boy Scouts of America Comm Coin They are talking about a NASA 50th Anniv. Set, It will be the biggest Comm Set ever offered 9-10 coins
Cool! I live 2 exits from NASA-Goddard...I'll probably be able to pick some up at their gift shop. I would collect the 5 Oz coins if we could buy them directly from the Mint (not cherrypicked). Someone posted up a hockey puck display case that would be perfect for these things! The BSA coin looks like it will be a real winner :thumb:
Why doesn't the mint sell these to collectors direct. Just another scam to pay a second markup to a dealer/distributor. I was pretty excited about the 5oz until I found out you have to get them from dealer. Now they can jack price up to whatever the hype will pay. I think a set of 5 ozers would look nice. Unfortunately, the way the (current administration) is printing money you may need to carry these around to pay for a gutbuster at 7/11 before this series is over.
the 2010 sacagawea one dollar reverse design is the best. the 2010 five quarters designs are the worst.
Is there a link with pictures of these coins you're discussing? The link in the 3rd post is text, no pictures. Thanks!
here are the links: http://www.coinnews.net/2009/11/20/candidate-2010-america-the-beautiful-quarters-designs/ http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/
fyi from Mint News Blog "Today the United States Mint has unveiled the designs for the upcoming 2010 Boy Scouts Silver Dollar Commemorative Coin."
Mint web site now has 2010 product schedule release.... Don't see no stinkin' release date for Silver Eagles.
That's because they will each be hidden inside of the 5 oz. version of the America the Beautiful Quarter coins to be released.
