Good catch, too, B21....I just bought a modern bullion coin in a slab and I told the seller that since my serial number did not match they should say in the future that the coin you see may not be the one you get.

For modern stuff, esp. MS69 or 70, probably doesn't matter. But I told them for a classic coin, what I see serial-wise matters bigtime.

Kinda depends what it is, yea bullion ASEs probably doesn't matter much especially since they're pretty cheap now in either grade. Modern or not though for a few thousand dollars I want to see an actual picture.

At least they showed it was a stock photo which some don't

If I am buying a slabbed coin -- even bullion -- I want to know if it's the actual coin. Because to be honest, I have since found out that either by lighting or filters or whatnot some of the better photographers are able to really accentuate the gold look on some of the coins I have been looking at.

I saw 10 that looked all alike and then 1 that looked super-shiny and PL, and I have since probably realized it's not the way that the coin will actually look in my hand (which was the only reason to pay a few hundred extra dollars). So I didn't buy it.

Just got a Reverse Proof Buffalo and while I like the coin the difference in appearance between the fields and devices is not as stark -- blackish -- as it was on the photo. I'm now wondering if those regular Proofs have fields that are milky-black, too.

OK. That buyer got a competitive price for an MS70 Prooflike based on the others available. But he payed as much as $1700 more than just an MS70. Is that reasonable?

I ask simply because I don't collect modern coins.

Would I want multiple coins of that type like raw bullion ? No way....

If you want just 1 to have "the best" possible features for a special coin that is not/has not been minted since, then it's like a special treat.

The MS70PLs are in the vicinity of $3,500 - $4,200. The MS70's are as you said about low-$2's. The MS-69 PLs might be a way to go, you can get them for about $2,300 .

For insanity, check this out: :yack:
