You betcha! Hopefully we will all be able to get online the day it comes out. The tentative release date is October 29, but of course I guess we will all wait to see.

Doesn't look like gold will hit $1075 today. Maybe tomorrow?

Just read that perhaps investors worried the recent rally might be overdone?

Noob question: how big a number is that?

Limited-edition coins that are supposed to be scarce seem to have mintages in four digits. The total supply of UHRs will eclipse that. But 100,000+ is nothing compared to the coins that sell for bullion prices, those are in the millions and millions.

Is 100,000 a lot of coins, or a few?

The story eBay seems to be telling is one of balanced supply and demand, now while the mint is still producing them.

I shouldn't care about this, since I treated the premium as an expense and charged it to the art budget, but it seems like a good idea to consider the eventual resale value.

98,768 and still counting. That's a considerable amount and makes the issue by no means rare. However, demand is there and people continue to buy these issues. My feeling is that in the future these issues will tend to sell for a fraction over "melt". This possibility doesn't bother me in the least as I bought the coin for "collector value" not "investment value".

Definitely! Not rare and I too am in for the collector value on the UHRs. There's plenty of other bullion coin product out there for investments. :D

UHR double eagle $20.00 gold coin initially sold for $1,189.00. it went down to $1,139.00. but very quickly it bounced back. and now it is $1,439.00. and it is possible that it might reach $1,489.00 too.

Why stop there? Maybe it will pop up over $1500 before they stop making the 09s! Better get some before then elaine... ;)

i prefer american buffalo one ounce proof than UHR double eagle now. i also like the box and certificate. which both have. as for spouses. i got enough. let's predict again.

    gold average $1,050.00 - $1,099.99
    UHR unc - $1,439.00
    buffalo proof - $1,360.00
eagle proof - $1,335.00 (imagine mint sell them)

which one will go up faster?. you guess.....

Only as a guess, especially since this is now off UHR topic per the thread, but I'd say the Proof Buffalo will be faster and perhaps smaller mintage.

Elaine, I prefer Buffalo one ounce proof coins too.

Back on to a UHR topic:

I was recently thinking that if the 2010 UHR gold & paladium set are produced and then the Mint stops all UHR production, they should attempt to release UHR coins once every 10 years as a 2 piece set and return to other regular collector products. This might take a large burden off fulfilling other annual products as we have seen happen this year. I think that a plan such as this might make the UHR much more highly collected and numismatically valuable since the series wouldn't advance much and collected sets would be much smaller since you would only have a piece for every decade available, with the potential for more collectors to come into the hobby each decade. Just a thought or daydream sort of idea.

Maybe not even this week. Looks like gold will open around $1050 today.

2009w american buffalo one ounce gold might be better than UHR double eagle. since i don't have UHR and plan to have one or two. now i might cancel dreaming of UHR and go for 09w buffalo. even if mintage might be high. still it won't higher than UHR 100,000 strong.

    100,000 mintage w/ 1,000,000 folks wanting them = RARE
50,000 mintage w/10,000 folks wanting them = NOT so rare

First Spouse mintages are miniscule, but only the highest graded coins are selling above bullion...nobody wants 'em.

Of course...those dynamics can always change in the future...or not (who knows?) :goofer:

It is usually good advice to buy when no one else is interested so you can sell later when there's a demand, especially from collectors trying to build sets.

    Why not get 'em both?

Darn, if you had just left that $1189 UHR process. . .

I think a lot has to do with a coin's "topic", also. I'm still going to see the FS series through to the end...but I'm less sure if this series will ever generate a significant collector base.

the mint should concentrate more of its FS series to asian countries. like india, hong kong, singapore, taiwan, japan, china as well as south east asian countries. it's .999 fine and 24K gold. the asian people like it. they can substitute the gold bar to gold coin. we are use to the 21.6K or 22K gold.

latest am buffalo one ounce gold proof prices: based on gold at $1,003.70 only. cdn report dated 9/25/09. by next week we should have a report dated 10/23/09. i missed the report dated 10/9/09. below pricing might have to adjust it higher.

    2006w - 252,000---cdn bid $1,230.00 ask $1,265.00 retail $1,365.00
    2007w -- 60,000---cdn bid $1,230.00 ask $1,265.00 retail $1,365.00
    2008w -- 19,591 -- cdn bid $2,300.00 ask $2,475.00 retail $2,675.00
    2009w -- ??????

2009w am buffalo one ounce gold proof most likely the mint will be offering at $1,310.00 or $1,360.00. gold averages between $1,000.00 to $1,099.99.

p.s. if mintage stay around 20,000. that will be very good. if mintage between 40,000 to 60,000. that might be another bullion coin. just like 06w and 07w. this is just my opinion.
