Yankee: How are they going nuts about a story while downplaying the same thing? I've looked at what they are broadcasting a couple of times this AM and they just seem to be reporting on the historical nature of gold's all time high... if you think a reporter screaming from the pits is going nuts they are just trying to be heard on their mics over the general floor noise. Maybe you are the one going nuts today? Of course these broadcasters holler like car salesmen, they have the same hyper message to attract your attention. Tune them out and enjoy your holdings. :hail:

No worries. :) I placed my order from the Mint for a UHR yesterday. :hail:
I'll still try to get a TPG slabbed UHR later on. This then leaves me preparing for the '09 Proof Buffalos to come. All items for my collection.

US Mint repriced the 2009 UHR: now selling at $1389 (a $50 increase) from US Mint web site.

Went to the mint website today. Is this true they will be doing a run of AGE fractionals in December?

yes. only the fractional bullion AGE. you have to buy it from dealers.

Empty Mint coin packaging won't be worth anything for any of their products, it's all marketing to move retail units while listed on Mint web site. Only the coin has value: for bullion value or numismatic value depending on how the person feels about the coin. Only the coin and marketplace will command the price, not the boxes. If you want packages to be worth something, buy them all or destroy many of the ones issued and not in use.

Also, a lot of the UHRs are coming from the Mint in very high quality. TPGs are giving a lot of high grades, too many of the TPG grades are MS69 or MS70. The premium on these coins graded will not be all that high with so many graded this high. Just look at secondary market and auctions to see how many of the high grade slabbed FS coins from earlier issues are selling for, often they sell for less than the Mint is selling currently listed FS coins for. Therefore, that dealer with 500 UHR to grade will not likely have many to return to the Mint. That dealer just needs to find a lot of buyers at his mark up since he will pay to have a lot graded, but the coin is a low mintage and most collectors already know this or own their coins. IMO.

Thanks Elaine. I don't own a half oz. but want one. Maybe this will be the cheapest way? I attend coin shows and the dealers sell them cheaper than eBay.

OMG, those boxes are a work of art! Nicer than a piece of furniture!
Any 70's that he gets back, would probably be best to have them cut a special groove for the slab!

Surely the mint wouldn't let him return that many UHR's, opened and sent in for grading???

LOL! Sorry to shock you with my suggestion to destroy boxes to drive the value of them up but I feel it's brutally true about packaging. I won't destroy my packages from the Mint, but I also will not buy a product from the Mint because of the pretty boxes.

That would be altering the original piece, usually devalues things in the eye of the collectors.

I too am very curious about the Mint's policy on this, especially with the bullion dealers... what is the return policy and how much can buyers abuse it like this?

the empty box of UHR is selling at e-bay from $25.00 and up. many collector will buy them.

yes, people will buy them, coin shops will have them around, but the boxes will not be worth much of anything, unless TPG slabs fall out of favor and people want to reunite the coins with packages once cast off. trends can go any which way without much rationale. I just caution not to buy a coin over its marketed packaging.

Why? No other coin will fit into that box that I am aware of. I don't know what people plan on doing with a box that has a mint logo stamped on it. Hey, honey....here is your new jewlery box. :goof:

That's a good point for the empty UHR boxes, that nothing else fits, whereas when I questioned if empty Double Prosperity boxes could be used to sell sets from coins not bought in an 8-8-8 set one could make money off the packaging.
