i remember those 2008w fractional and one ounce am buffalo or am eagle gold proof and uncirculated. with two or three thousand pieces left before sell out. those gold coins might be bought by big institutions or dealers and maybe some wealthy collectors.

Wow, you guys. My wife would o' skinned me alive if I bought one o' those sets. It was all that I could do to "rationalize" the UHR......:)

Ken, my wife would have killed me too. I sold a bunch of coins last summer so I could afford those sets. If I am not mistaken, I believe you even help contribute to the funds! :D

No Ken she would skin you alive if she picked up the dog at the vet and was handed what I PM you about.:mouth: LOL if you purchased the 4 coin Buffalo set she make you sleep on the couch until the cows came home. But of course you have the 4 coins set.....I always use the years married to coin ratio..it works like this until your wedding day you put a penny in a jar for every time you....you know:whistle: and from your wedding day on you take a penny out of the jar for every time.... you know:whistle: and if by the grace of god you live to be 100 ...you'll sitll have your complete Lincoln collection in tack!:thumb:

for the next three days. if gold for those three days average $1,002.50 per ounce. then the price of UHR double eagle and spouses gold will go up one bracket. that's mean UHR will cost us $1,389.00 each. first offer is $1,189.00. see UHR double eagle mintage to pass 100,000 soon.

I regret selling my four coin buffalo proof set but in the end I am happy that I remain focused on one series.

I may splurge at the end of the year on the UHR still undecided. I with Krispy in that I would regard it more as a collecible than bullion.

this week to next wednesday, the mint gold prices might be steady without increases. we need the average gold price to pass $1,005.25 on tuesday and wednesday. so that the UHR double eagle price will up one bracket from thursday to next wednesday. currently gold is around $1,000.00 an ounce.

I'm going to show my ignorance sooner or later, so I thought I might as well get it over with and make my first post a stupid question.

Is the mint capsule sufficient protection for something as soft as 24K gold? Is there another storage option that's sufficiently better to justify trying to move the coin?

With the coin still in the capsule, am I right in thinking that I still want to follow the rule of only handling it over a soft surface?
