I have definitely been priced out of the UHR now.

I did on the other hand buy the potential winning lottery ticket. :)

Well the UHR is a collectible for me and as a collectible it's still worth buying at the higher US Mint price tiers bumping up with the gold market... if only this was the right time for me to buy one (or 25 LOL!). Likewise the current tier and the next one up is still below what most dealers are selling slabbed UHRs for and I'd prefer one of these un-slabbed and original from the Mint before buying a slabbed one. Slabbed UHRs will even potentially come down in price later on after the Mint stops/sells out. I' just don't care for the TPG slab holders used to show the edge lettering.

The wife and I visited our local public library today and I got a chance to look in the newspaper section where I perused the current edition of Coin World. In it was an article on the recent ANA convention in LA where the US Mint was selling the UHR over the counter and it seems they were doing a rather brisk business indeed. Seem folks were willing to stand in line for upwards to an hour in order to purchase these beauties. In fact, certain folks were aquiring this issue in regard to the max (which I believe was ten pieces) and the reason for the long line because the credit card purchases were being questioned by the card companies. There is a huge demand for this issue dispite the large mintage.

It is one of the few times the mint did things right. Probably one of the best gold coins they have ever produced IMO.

Ken you left out the best part...the part after they stood in line for hours...they then sold the UHR coins to dealers for some over $50 the purchased price! Nice days work making $500.00 clams for waiting in line for a few hours. I'll take $250.00 an hour anyday:bow:

Oh yeah, I seem to remember an article about what some of the TV dealers were planning and that fits the bill pretty well.

Sales are up to 90,048 for the UHR now, with many more thousands to go in the next couple of months.

I just got a rather large, print US Mint 2009 Fall Gift Catalog in the mail today with images of the UHR all over it.

Hi elaine, I don't yet have any UHR coins in my collection. As these are collectible coins to me, the price of gold isn't an object for me when considering this particular coin, however I also cannot just buy anything I want at any time either. :smile I simply love the idea of the UHR coin, its design and this being the first year it is available, I plan on buying one. For my collection I would like to own 2 pieces: one in its original condition with mint box/COA and later on I plan to find a TPG graded version, however I don't quite like the TPGs holders they are placed in. While these coins will be viewed as bullion to some people, for me the UHR is a coin for collecting that will at least always carry it's bullion value, be that higher or lower. If gold drops big after I buy a UHR near it's current pricing, it's still a beautiful design that I will admire in my collection and find the money worth having spent.

Thanks for asking me:hail:, I really like to follow the news and information written and reported on UHRs and I'm really crossing my fingers for a possible palladium version of this design in the (hopefully) near future.

i don't have it either krispy. first, i don't like thick rim coin. look unrealistic. there were plentiful of high relief coin with regular rim. like the older version of washington quarter. specially the silver washington quarter. second, i use 99% of my savings to acquire fractional 2008w ameircan buffalo and fractional 2006w to 2008w american eagle. i am really full. lastly, the mintage is quite high if you consider gold coin. well. i can get one if someone willing to give it to me.

Yes, I agree that those fractionals are a smart buy first and foremost and the UHR will be available later on too since its reached such high production mintage numbers. I understand you and others do not like the thickness of these coins. I am not particularly wow'ed by the edge lettering and smaller diameter but it definitely is realistic... ;) and these factors do not trun me off from wanting to own a couple of them. I think its just a new coin for some who don't like the dimensions, and sometimes new things do not appeal to people right away, they need to warm up to these things. I'd certainly love to have an example of the original double eagle coin in high relief as I admire all of the Saint-Gauden's designs, but that will be a goal for me later on in my collecting. :D
