Does this mean you think the UHR will eventally sell for around 1K? That would be a price I could see purchasing quite a few. :)

Although I think it would take a year or two for the premium to start falling. I'm thinking the UHR will always be at least $150-200 above melt at it's lowest point.

Maybe 120K total production. Still not that many for world wide production.

for gold coin. it must be 10,000 or less to become key coin.

Currently an artificial scenario perhaps but melting large quantities down of non key years to below that of a low mintage year will offset that key status. Past government recall actions saw to that. I'm not implying this scenario will reoccur, I'm not a doom forecaster, just adding to the factors that determine such status. Mintage numbers alone are not solely what creates a key, in fact survival of the coins after the dies are destroyed is more important of a factor than production stats.

    Doug where are you ?

Doug has a good point he has presented before .
It is supply and demand that makes certain coins valuable.
There are hundreds of coins that have low mintage that sell near melt . There were I think a couple of other items that were in his logic, but it made sense.

Do you know if the UHR will be a continuing series or a one year wonder?

A one year wonder but rumor has it they are trying to do this in another metal. If they do this I think they would continue this another year to have a 2 coin set. Only time will tell if it actually happens.

    Flooding

Flooding the market just by offering more units seems to work. It does not mean more will be sold. I think the average person has one and some two. The supply was low so the price was high. Now you can virtually buy all you can afford as an individual. I think with another quarter and Christmas on the way it will be hard to sell large amounts unless a dealer thinks they will buy and hold for a year, and see if the prices turn. The total production should be absorbed by the world market one would hope.
Collectors want return on an investment like any thing else.
Call it an interest, hobby, collection or accumulation but the final result for many is they love art,and a nice profit to go with it.

I purchased both the 4 coin Buffalo in MS and proof sent the proof back to the mint as both sets at the time were alittle pricy. However we all know hinde sight is 20/20! Thro I kept the lower mintage of the two sets....I wished I had of sold off some of my other bullion to compensate the price of the proof set of 4. As for the 1st wives coins I was going to buy all 4 of the liberty coins in both proof and MS. However I only purchased the Jefferson liberty. I am glad I did buy The Jefferson as I am a Jefferson collector......But I believe the 1st wives coins wont hold any more value than bullion or spot. Look at commeratives nice coins but other than Jackie Robberson and coins with low mintages like the Robberson coins ....how many really hold value? Not many I have sold comm sets both proof & MS that I was lucky to get spot for....Buy the UHR it's one year only ... buy the first wives if you are building a set to hand down to your children. Just my 2 cents....Paddy
