All the coins and sets the mint produce should have mintage limits, just like every mint around the world. That would make things interesting.

So do you think the US Mint may drop their price per unit for the UHRs before the end of 2009 since they don't seem to be out of blanks, if not back to the original price point from earlier in the year?

the price of uhr double eagle gold will always be based on the price of gold and its mint price chart. as of now. it is quite expensive. i mean the mint price chart is very expensive. the mint should lower it one or two bracket on that.

UHR double gold allowed 10 pc per family instead of one. are you planning to buy some more?. and why?.

TO: elaine 1970 Since you posed the question, how about you, and why?

Perhaps it will prove smarter to forego buying this coin from the mint and perhaps production will slow if demand weakens, yielding a lower mintage. I would consider 'smart shopping' of already graded UHRs and try to seize on the moment when premiums drop or level off on slabbed UHRs. Seems there's a consensus that feels this may happen in the near future. But if the price of gold would plummet and the Mint were to drop per unit costs then maybe buying from the Mint is okay. It would be nice if individuals could buy up to the 10 piece per family amount, but be given a volume discount for such a huge "per household" purchase. Maybe three price tiers: 1-5 pcs. at the base retail price, 6-9 pcs. a bit less and 10 pcs for some incentive-ized, close to bullion spot+ price point.

Any update on the mintage count for the UHR's? How often do they update and is there any place to get that info other then from elaine1970? :)

The mint usually updates their numbers on Sunday or early Monday [reported later in the week] so the new limit on the UHR won't be seen in the numbers until next week is my guess. If people are even making a small amount in aftermarket this could drive sales much higher perhaps.

Hope this helps as you are unlikely to get much of an answer... ;)

price of UHR double eagle might go up again due to gold over $950.00 an ounce.
