I think there may be at least one other, whole or in part, but I'm not going to try to dig it up. I posted links to the previous threads in the last update as well and tried to clarify the fact that it gives the new reader context, but clearly the point was lost.

I called yesterday and paid for my membership... it takes 7-10 business days to receive the welcome packet with the submission form. I am sending it in. being I already sent it to mike diamond and he AGREES with my assessment. so your opinion means absolutely squat. so you can kiss my... big...fat...hairy...toe. while you're there...get the other one too so its not jealous.

If you go back and read your November post 3 or 4 threads ago, you commented that Mike Diamond said that the coin sounded like it was Cu-Ni. While this is encouraging, his suggestion that you get an XRF done means that it has potential, not that he agrees with your assessment. And all @JCro57 was saying that 9+ months and 3 threads later, you still haven’t done the 1 thing Mike Diamond suggested. The longer you keep screwing around, the more you sound like the kid in JCro57’s post.

I think the fact that a number of members suggested how to get it tested and/or submitted in the last 9+ months indicates that there may be a possibility that you might have something. But finding a coin like this would be extremely unusual. And extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. How do we know you are actually sending it this time or if you’ll come back in 2 months with another piece of inaccurate data from an unsubstantiated source? Heck, I’m beginning to wonder if you really did send it to Mike Diamond. If I had something like this and he suggested how to confirm it, I would have been on top of it the next day, not 9 months later.

In the beginning, I think many of us were rooting for you to have one. But Now???

I'd love to see this play out in Bryan's favor, but if memory serves me he has somewhat of a history of finding nickels he believes are or may be off metal. Perhaps this means nothing, but it could suggest one seeing what they want to.

If he truly wasn't able to find someone willing to do the recommended test and submitting his only remaining option, he deserves credit if truly following through. Good or bad it would be a refreshing change from all the folks claiming to do or have done so that we never hear from again.

Having someone damage it to do a test is all the proof I need that he is not being totally forthcoming, possibly even outright lying. As you said, if Mike or Fred thought it had a chance, it would be in PCGS's hands yesterday, and I certainly wouldn't go and damage it after the fact.

I can't disagree, but sadly experience has showed me people will do foolish and often self-defeating things if they think it can save (or make) them a buck, so this alone isn't enough for me to personally make such a conclusion. The OP knows better than to let some chump at a "new" pawnshop screw around with such a coin though, you're right.

At this point all we can do is wait to see what happens. If he's truly sending it in, one can only hope we will get a real update before long and especially considering the number of times this has been addressed. If we don't it's only going to reflect poorly upon the OP.

I missed this before but is worth addressing....

Your exact question in the last thread was this:

"the cost (PCGS) is about $250. so before investing that much would you say that whatever I had to invest, the payout would exceed my cost?"

Now seriously, Bryan; all you're doing is trying to blame others for your own failures. You know perfectly well that if an off-metal the coin should have damned decent potential, so don't try to put this on us, especially since you decided to be ridiculously vague. It's NOT our responsibility to do your homework for you, but here... please allow me to do you a favor: there's a 1944 wrong planchet in low VF in the Heritage archives sold (iirc) over 15 years ago for around $5500. This should sufficiently answer your question, but I think we both know that's not really why you asked it.

So there you go. Now if you do submit and it turns out to be nothing, you can blame me. You're welcome.

Not just an off metal, but I can't find any others of this "silver nickel on nickel planchet" on the net. This could be a unicorn and a discovery coin.
Personally, I think it just has a different patina from your usual 35% war nickel
and it is silver. I guess we will find out in a month.

Apparently saying that there was no need for further discussion until the coin came back from PCGS had little to no effect.

And why should it? If everyone stopped discussing whenever suggested this discussion forum would largely be a ghost town.
