As pretty as they come - without breaking the bank!
1821 is a relatively scarce, low mintage date - However, it is really scarce only in higher grades, VF and above.

This one shows nice detail and surfaces, and relatively even colour - I would say better than the average 1821 found. Happy to add it to my collection.

    How would grade her?

    I see a quality coin...VF20/25

    Should grade straight.

That’s a really nice coin Eduard, I think the condition looks pretty good for a VF25. If you are looking to buy US coins at decent rates then you can check out this website here:

    I like it at a solid VF25, VF30 on a good day.

I was going for 25 before I saw some of the other posts. Now, I agree yours could go for 30.

To be fair, mine is probably a VF20 in reality. Eduard has a much better coin.

Thank you, all, for your comments and opinions, and @Rheingold and @C-B-D for posting your examples:).

IMO, the key thing with these, besides of course the level of wear, is the condition
of the surfaces. Many '21's that I come across show rough or corroded or pitted surfaces. This example is a happy exception so I consider myself lucky to have found it.

1821's are also IMO readily available in lower grades, this in spite of a low reported mintage of only 389000. I have somehow accumulated these 4 examples over the time I've been collecting large cents.

You can say I really like this date.

Here's mine. I saw this at the show and really liked it. PCGS graded this one AU-58. The EAC grade is probably EF-45.

I keep toying with the idea of doing a large cent date set. Then I think about the 1804, which gives me a belly ache, and the 1799 which makes me want to throw up, and I think, no you can’t do it. It’s not that I can’t afford ugly examples of those two coins, it’s just that I don’t like really low grade stuff. Believe me, some of the genuine 1799s that on the market make “terrible” too kind of a word. Too often the 1799s that have a date have been “helped.” (i.e. they are altered date counterfeits or outright counterfeits.)

The only 1821 cent I can remember owning was a holed example, which was part of the large cent date set I had sewn onto the back of my Holey Coin Vest. I lacked only 1793, 1795, 1799, and 1804 in my collection of holed large cents. Some of the coins were decent, aside from the holes.
