Is there any love for these Austrian or Hungarian coins? Is there a plus or minus for one coin vs the other? I am a fan of the design on the Korona, but I only own a Corona.
I’ve owned both, back in the 1980s they were actually preferred over the krugerrands because they had nothing to do with apartheid. When the AGE came out in 1986 people preferred them over the korona/corona coins. They can be interesting even though they are restrikes with a frozen date. They have about 2% more gold than the gold $20.
I like them both. They can usually be picked up a little over spot price. I'm not an investor but will pick these up when the price is right.
The only one I really like is way out of my league:https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/austria-100-corona-km-2812-1908-cuid-1044763-duid-1215869
An Austrian 100 Korona is a rare coin in my world. I have a 10 Korona that I just got in the mail today, I actually have another one but this is the nicest one out of the two. I like them fine but mine is Hungarian!
I don't think you have to be Austrian to appreciate the luster and detail of that coin JMO. What would you consider a decent price range in todays market?
Full retail on ebay for one in the same shape as mine around $300 in a coin shop less, if you can find one!
These are lovely coins. There is a commemorative version of both the Austrian and Hungarian 100 Corona as well. The originals of either Hungarian version are expensive and scarce.
Yes, I forget specifically what you collect but I remember you have some really beautiful rare gold coins! Nice opportunity to show pics if you'd like??
I do, but not the 100 korona. I've not been lucky at auction with the originals, which come up seldom and are usually MS60-61. Seen a few original commemoratives now and again, but they've been more than I wanted to pay.
Here are some prooflike examples of the next highest contemporary Austro-Hungarian gold issues to the 100 corona, from my collection. Both are examples of the first types of their respective denominations.: Hungary 1905KB AU 20 Korona KM-486 (1892-1915) NGC MS63★ PL Austria 1892 AU 20 Corona KM-2806 (1892-1905) NGC MS62 PL

Gotta love that Korona up there showing the Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary Franz Joseph standing all bada$$ in full regalia! Currently one of my favorite gold coin designs!
They are slightly in disfavor because they are not an even ounce. You pay a lesser premium when you buy them, but they are discounted a bit more when you sell them. Nothing wrong with buying them if you have somebody who wants to get rid of theirs at a good price to you. THey will rise and fall with the tide.
