A first for me - Show Grading - Guess the grade part 4 of 5 (Texas)

Now we move on.

Please guess the original grade and the new grade (originally PCGS and now PCGS). Are they the same or different?

65 to a 65

 

One of these has to be a winner for you, so I'll say 66 to 66+.

 

Gorgeous coin. Love the toning, and the clean strike, given the high relief design. I think the grade was unchanged. It was a 65 originally, and a 65 after crack out. I know you were going for the 66, for obvious marketability reasons, but they did not cooperate. The toning obscures the luster a bit—I think the coin is a luster bomb, but as is often the case, toning mutes it a bit.

One of my favorite coin designs and yet I still don't own one. I would call it a liner between 64 and 65. I think it was originally a 65 and stayed that way. The eye appeal of the toning around the rim helped elevate the grade and hold it at 65.

@KBBPLL and others scoring at home, it's 0 for 4 as this one stayed the same too. Man PCGS sure has gotten consistent in grading (at least when it comes to my subs ). It was originally a 66 and came back 66. The coin has "bowl luster" on the Eagle side (somewhat like you would find on some 1882-S Morgans) and nice color. The PCGS TrueView helps capture the color and will be useful if I sell the coin (it's been a keeper but I did find a second one that might best this one). Plus, some of the people that asked about the coin when I originally posted it wanted the TrueView photos-there are buyers who pass on coins if that photo isn't there; you can't even convince them if the coin has a great photo from someone like @jtlee321 .

 

MS-64 to MS-65 before I saw your reveal. I tend to grade Commemoratives more conservatively than regular issue coins.

 

Damn. I was 66 and stayed 66 before I saw it.

 

That's a great looking coin. My initial impression was 66 with no change (cross my heart and hope to die!)

 

I have always had a tough time with trying to grade a coin thru not only the plastic, but all the toning, stains, and carbon spots...I'll probably never get it right, so I'll just leave that part to the graders and go on guessing in the blind.
