I'm surprised you have been allowed to add that icon to a post. I'm waiting for the hammer to fall. Watch out, the old man must be ZZZZZzzzzzzz.
Hey, he started it (by putting an animated GIF icon on my account). He's well aware. (I am planning on redoing it once I get my Photoshop machine back on its feet. Jokes are fine, but I don't set out to sow actual confusion here. At least, not for long.)
I have nothing to worry about. The likelihood of Doug ever giving me a “like” is somewhat lower than hell freezing over.
This is as close as I've gotten to a "like" from the old geezer (or is it geyser? ). https://www.cointalk.com/threads/can-you-define-improper-storage.327120/#post-3237149
Yer from Cali CC . . . try barkin' at him in Valley-speak . . . Like, maybe he'll Woof ya back . . . or like woof ya back . . . or woof ya like back . . . like whatever dude!
That's like saying a rose isn't a rose because it isn't a color you think it should be, or look the way you think it should look ! Put another way, a like (a compliment) is still a like (a compliment) no matter what form it comes in ! And as I've tried to explain, it means a whole lot more when someone takes the time and effort to actually write out and post for all to see - I like it ! - than it could ever mean by clicking on some silly button that requires almost no effort at all ! Ya see Mike, just like what you believe, there's something I believe too. I believe that if everybody had to actually write out and post that they like something, there'd be one heck of a lot fewer likes ever given out ! In other words, if all they gotta do is click a silly button that only takes a fraction of second to do - yeah they'll do that. But they aren't willing to spend the time and effort to do it the hard way - the way that means you care enough to do it the hard way !
If memory serves, LostDutchman - https://www.cointalk.com/members/lostdutchman.16994/ - was the first to come up with this little bit of creativity. And it was many years ago !
Another forum I belong to does not have the "like" button for that exact reason. The forum Dad would rather people post than just click a button.
But then you'd get lots of "Great Post" or "I agree, well said" posts that would clutter up the threads. The LIKE button is is indispensable, IMO. I think thread size would increase 50-100% if folks posted 1-liners instead. CT would be much less useful IMO. Less wading through irrelevant posts.
