2010 ASE rolls

Hello everyone, Does anyone have any idea how many out of the 20 would grade MS 70 if I sent them to PCGS to get graded?

Can't say without good close up pics of every coin, front and back.

If you cannot personally grade and know they will return from the TPG with 70s then why take such a huge loss on submission fees if many or all came back much less than 70s... You could just buy the bullion ASE 70s already graded, save time and money, buy more bullion or more graded bullion if that's your thing.

It makes sense to open the roll and inspect them all, before deciding whether to have them graded. Maybe you could take them to the coin shop and ask their advice.

I've never personally submitted a roll of new SE to be graded, but I've read and been told by a trusted dealer that the odds of a roll having a MS70 is very low !

The obvious answer is there is no way to tell.

However, I would not suggest opening the roll if you want to try for a 70 designation. Tape the lid shut and ship the entire roll for grading.

The reasoning is this. Have you ever tried to get the coin out of a mint roll? It's imposible to do without some force and force only causes the coins to bang up against each other. With each shift of the coins in the tube, your chances of getting a 70 is greatly decreased. Once out of the tube, they must be handled ...any continued handling will continue to lessen your chances of hitting the ellusive 70 mark.

Once a roll arrives at NGC, the tube is sliced open along all 4 sides and peeled off the coins with the precision of a heart surgeon.

PS....... Back in 2006, I bought a GMB and sent the box to NGC with instruction not to slab anything lower than MS69. I received 97/500 grading 70 and 153/500 grading 69, the left overs(250 or 1/2 the GMB) were returned unslabbed.

 

IMO, PCGS will be tougher than NGC in the ASE series. I have never sent a sealed roll to a TPG but have talked to some people who have done so. From what I have heard, I think 5-20% (1-4) will come back MS70. This is why people will open the rolls and send in only the ones that stand a chance of grading MS70. TC

Not that I think one should buy something like this especially with the significant premium on these BU bullion coins and because this just seems like a brand name PCGS gimmick... though if the OP is looking for an entire roll of ASEs in one particular condition, then there is this 'option' even though this is not the MS70 the OP seeks.

ex: 2010 ASEs on Apmex now $18.70 ea. or for 20-99 pcs @ $18.30 ea.

I just went on their website and found that the charge would be $19.95 to ship a roll of Silver ASE's. I guess that beats the 9% sales tax we have here.

 

Just noticed 2010 & 2009 ASEs unavailable at APMEX!

 

The question remains.....do you think they were sold out....Or yanked, so that APMEX doesn't lose money?

 

I think yanked so they don't run out. I've seen it before on their site. I'm sure sales were brisk for them today and they don't want to run out while the prices are low or if the correction continues another day.

 

I might buy a roll if silver goes below $15.

 

Not off Apmex you won't. Not until they replenish stocks and or have supply to make a profit off of at your price point... and a lot of other people will try to sit tight on any PMs they have until silver rises again, that is if they bought above your price point.

If you can afford it now in smaller quantities from a dealer with lower premiums than big dealers like Apmex, say from a local dealer, then perhaps you should consider buying instead of trying to figure out something that might not be possible at a future date/time.

Consider buying little by little as you go instead of stating something like this. You will be amazed how quickly it adds up even in small purchase increments. :thumb:
