Many coin dealers get the alerts from them and are on watch for the stolen items. Those dealers have helped to recover many stolen collections and caused many arrests. Frequently stuff is stolen on one coast and sold clear across the country.
When they make a report the cops roll immediately. Highly recommend them as a good subscription and also recommend that every collector donate a few bucks to keep them open.

And from what I've heard, and what I found with our own insurer, a rider like that is A LOT more expensive than the Hugh Wood coverage, and does less for you.

Oh how awful. I feel bad for you. It's too bad that you didn't have an alarm system. Maybe the police would have come sooner to investigate? I hope you had them insured.
And those guys were white-skinned, not black, just so you know.

For me the cost for a rider was about 10X the cost of using using Hugh Wood.

Sorry to hear it OP. Physical security is the main downfall of this hobby and pm stacking. A bolted safe or a safe deposit box are usually best. Anything of high value, like my avatar, goes into the sdb. Makes it no as fun to be able to "play" with them as often, but makes going to sleep easier.

Sorry you are living most people's here nightmare.

I think over the last 100+ years we have proven that as long as this continues to be the main means of securing coins, that we will continue with a large percentage of the coin market trading in stolen coins.

The best road to take is to end the market for stolen goods. That has been proven to be more effective.

  14. DAMN!! Im shocked, 3 hooligans breaking in and stealing valuable numismatic items and a TON of silver. I feel so sorry man, I really loathe people that grief and take away items that aren’t theirs. I hope you will at least partially recover from that olive-yapping, bridge-breaking, thieves. :grumpy:

Kevin, first off sorry for the loss. PLEASE take all photos to every coin shop or pawn shop in and AROUND your location. Also, if the police department has turned it over to the detectives make sure they have copies. When I was a detective, this type of information was EXTREMELY helpful. IF the detectives are doing their jobs they should have ask for this already. If not I would consider having a sit down with the commander of the detective division and ask WHY. Sometimes being a pain in the ass by constantly asking for an update keeps them awake. I would NOT depend on them going outside their district in follow-ups but YOU can take those pics and spread them around.
    Good luck.

Some of those coins are specific.
Would it help to run a Google search or want ad for a specific coin and see if the thieves bite??
You dont want to ask for more then one coin at a time as NOT to tip your hand.
Maybe if the thief googles what the coins are they will hit on your want ad and contact you.

Sucks to have to go through this.
Cameras were up but it wouldn't hurt to have a few a little lower to get facial recognition.
A proximity alarm blaring would have detoured this bunch as they were looking for easy targets.
I'll go back and read all the posts, BUT I'm assuming that your collection wasn't in a safe?
