this is where greed comes into play, the seller gets the cash and the buyer most likely will try and sell it at a higher price they don't care what they sell as long as it makes them money
I say it's a fake... he just reposted the post that was disbanded... Still fake, will never be real, and that price is outrageous for a fake... look at the back of the coin... there is multiple raised areas that show its a fake... and as others have said the dates are NOT right.
Just wait. When the buyer discovers it's fake, he'll file a SNAD, ebay will refund the money (the no return policy isn't enforceable if a SNAD is filed), and the seller still gets stuck with the paypal fees. Karma will have a way of working it out
@Danaro1. Thank you for your reply. I'm curious to know if you're going to send it in to have it authenticated and graded?
Aliexpress (and other chinese based websites). Before the US cracked down that marketplace was littered with "rare and expensive" US coins. Morgans, ASEs, AGEs, Peace Dollars, 1955 DD cents .. you name it. You could buy them by the dozen for only a few dollars. Of course, all fake. The early fakes were more easily recognizable. But they improved and made much, much better fakes. There are a lot of threads on there about such good fakes. Example ==> https://www.cointalk.com/threads/a-“family”-of-struck-fake-draped-bust-dollars.348423/ Before the crack down they did not have the "COPY" stamp on them. But you'll find many previously imported examples still littering places like etsy, craigslist, ebay, etc The key red flag is finding a super rare coin that is not slabbed/authenticated already. Of course, the counterfeiters got good at creating fake slabs too. I used to go to that website all the time and compare the pictures to pictures of raw coins I was looking at acquiring. here's pics of before the COPY stamp crackdown ==> https://www.cointalk.com/threads/sitting-liberty-dollar-coin-questions.331523/#post-3325245 or for bad fake==> https://www.cointalk.com/threads/trade-dollar.331564/
In my humble opinion the date looks correct. I have an assortment of dates for all my Lincoln's that I refer to in checking for abnormalities. Check the edge: Shiny or dull as mentioned by Oldhoopster
Danaro1, if you ask for an opinion and someone here offers you an opinion it is clearly their opinion. Your terse reply "your opinion" comes across as a challenge. I have to say that just because someone disagrees with you, doesn't make their opinion wrong, or yours right, for that matter. That's the behavior of Trolls. If your looking for a debate, there are plenty of other sites for that. If you are looking for a site where everyone agrees with you, this is not that site either. Just trying to be constructive. Now send it to a TPG and let us know what they say....
