Recently found in family old coins. I know these are counterfeited a lot so based on these photos is it real and approximate value. Thks
Pictures are not enough to determine whether or not it's a counterfeit. What is its weight, thickness, and diameter?
FYI you always want the coins rotated in proper position. Also try to position the cell phone camera sensor DIRECTLY ABOVE instead of off to the side. And in focus - ie, you cannot get too close as cameras have a minimum focus distance.
100% counterfeit beyond any doubt. If the reverse doesn't scream fake, look at the obverse. Especially the denticles, date, and Liberty.
Looks like someone turned a cast fake into a potty dollar that is unless it left the Shanghai mint like that... I'll wait for the CT lawyers to chime in on the legality of this one...
I looked at the eagle first. The Wings with the "out line" as a line and the Feathers as Lines ... but there was so much glaringly wrong on both sides.
Just look at Lady Liberty on the OP's coin! Now try to imagine that that design would ever make it onto a US government minted coin. OMG
Not always, but this time, they certainly are. That thing's a mess. My prediction: diameter and thickness are approximately right, weight is way off, and there's a good chance it'll stick to a magnet.
I don't know the mintage but it is a silver dollar. 90 per cent that is. They were issued when silver became scarce for a time and to keep commerce moving the treasury minted them. It probably isn't worth much more than a silver dollar. It is old and please keep it due to age. Good coin to pass on to your kids. The General
Welcome to CoinTalk, but... 1) It's not a silver dollar. At least, not a real one. 2) It's almost certainly not 90% silver. 3) Trade dollars were issued to compete with other countries' coins in overseas trade. 4) If it were real, it would be worth much more than a common Morgan or Peace dollar, but probably less than a Seated or Bust dollar. As a fake, it's worth less than a silver dollar. 5) It's not old. 6) It's not good to pass counterfeits on to your kids. Other than that, though...
