the amount of detail on that coin is astounding considering the insanely small size. what is that, like 4mm?

Indeed the detail is quite amazing on these small coins - this one at it's widest is just shy of 10mm and weighs .6g. The Lincoln cent is 19.05mm. I just noticed how my image is oriented and it was by happenstance that Lincoln got a new head.

I always wondered if people lost these tiny coins easily. I mean, a Lincoln is hard enough to hold on to, something half the size would be absurd

I haven't been able to post until tonight, but thank you thank you thank you Q for my fabulous new follis of Constantius I as Caesar!

Look at that coin!! :wideyed: Minty fresh, full silvering, fantastic detail, great left-facing portrait... but I think the thing that most impresses me is the HUGE flan! I love this coin. :shame:

What makes it even more special is that it is from the Lugdunum mint, i.e. Lyons, and therefore very close to Q's place of residence. Q also included the principal reference for the Lugdunum mint, namely the (enormous!) CGB auction of the Daniel Compas collection in 2006. A very thoughtful addition, both for personal enjoyment and also useful for my AMCC work.

But that is not all... can you believe that he gave me:
    AN ATHENIAN OWL!!! :jawdrop:

I still owe the pics of my gift and will get them posted tonight. I apologize for being one of the slowcoaches.

There have been some unbelievable gifts this year. This thread has been fun to watch.

I wonder how many people decided to wait until Christmas to open their gift? I did last year. Even though Saturnalia technically ends on the 23rd I don’t think even a god who eats babies could begrudge people a Christmas coin ;)

I've been to busy to post anything for the last couple of weeks, but don't mistake that for me being less grateful! I'm very happy to see that my gift was received and seems to be in a happy home. I was lucky enough to receive this beautiful Antoninianus of Postumus with a striking portrait, high silver content, and very nice toning. Definitely the finest Gallic Empire coin in my collection!

My secret Saturn put great thought into my gift and I really appreciate that. Both coins were unattributed which I really enjoy. The first coin is a Illyria/ Dyrrachium drachm which is a type I have wanted for a very long time. I know it's a bit late for Saturnalia, but we're having a gathering of the family this afternoon and one of the drinks we're serving is Conditum Paradoxum. Io Saturnalia!

Mine arrived yesterday and I am very happy. My secret saturn chose a nice republican denarius. I did not have any from this series so this gift is very welcome indeed. My photos are poor but the coin is beautiful in hand.

Many thanks to the individual who picked out this coin for me.

Justin Lee I learn by doing

Looking back though this thread and realized that your new MA is an ex: Justin Lee (I would recognize that tiny rectangular corrosion mark on Minerva's chest and green neck of MA anywhere). It's the coin I played and lost in "battle" to the venerable Doug Smith in Round 1 of 2018's Coin Imperator Tournament:
    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/po...ougsmit-round-1-cit-2018.320935/#post-3149166

Later that fall, I put it up in AMCC1 and it was no longer mine. That coin is my "one that got away", so please say "hi" to it from me, take great care of it, and give it the most love and admiration. I'm sooo happy it is in the great home of a fellow CT-er across the pond! :woot::happy:
