You know, back during ancient Olympic times, those who violated the rules were disciplined severely....

    P0077.jpg

I hear the penatly for a false start in a race was a severe whipping, after which the runner was forced to still compete in the race. Two false starts and you got beat up by all the runners and went home in shame.

So, how many false starts does that make for you? :p:eek: Just kidding, if those were the rules for this thread, with all my false starts my back would be raw hamburger patty by now. So much for "old times were better." Not in this case.:D

Interesting that track and field starter guns today are .22’s (false barrel and blanks.) However, I always was very aware of the allusion when I was in those races, especially when I heard the YELL, “FALSE START!!!

True , imagine if the person making a false start had to keep running while the person with the starting pistol tried to take a shot at them. That somehow seems like something our ancient forefathers would have approved of 100%.

I guess stuff like that seems logical in a world were urban dwellers were all probably suffering from some degree of heavy metals poisoning due to lead, mercury, and arsenic being in just about every hygienic product you used, most clothing product/jewels you wore, or in contact with every food product you ate.

Asia Minor, Uncertain mint. AR Tetartemorion or Hemiobol (Circa 450 B.C.)
    Obverse:
    Corinthian helmet right.
    Reverse: Amphora within rectangular border.
Reference: Unpublished in the standard references.
    Weight: 0.26g
    Size: 6mm

This type have been tentatively attributed to Neandria in Troas, where an early fraction featured a helmet on the obverse was minted. While an attribution to a mint in that region is reasonable, Neandria is probably not correct, as its early fractions consistently feature a ram or barley grain on the reverse, which were emblematic of the city. At the same time, the nearby city of Larissa consistently featured an amphora on the reverse of nearly all of its coinage, which would make it a more likely candidate.

Next: A coin featuring a Greek helmet.

Hmmm... not sure if mass poisoning has changed down to today. Maybe not all the same chemicals...but, at least we can read the labels on our food / clothing / cosmetics and actually know we are being poisoned... maybe it is worse today KNOWING we are poisoning ourselves.

Arcadius AE2, GLORIA ROMANORVM; emperor holding globe. (If you point out that it's not a deity, you've got me on a technicality.)

Yes, this coin is basically a piece of junk, but it has an interesting backstory.

Which was also reported (not quite accurately and later corrected) in the local press.

Next up, continue the "deity with globe" theme if you do not accept this play as valid, or go with "coin with known findspot" if you do.
