Ok, we have a Toning Game, a Details Game, and everybody seems to enjoy GTG's, which is sort of a game. So this 'game' is a little more challenging - Identify the coin (Coin, Date, & Mint Mark) by whatever anomaly is shown. Whoever guesses the coin correctly, then gets a point and the right to post the next anomaly to be identified. You can use a coin from your collection, or one you find online. I don't think using a coin where the anomaly is not obvious would be good (ie, 1795 Large Cent S-76s, which is a difference in the weight). Must be a recognized variety or anomaly, not a one off or PMD (obviously). If after 24 hours (give or take) the coin has not been ID'd, the poster of said coin should post the coin info, and that rounds winner would be whoever was closest (coin, date, MM, in that order). So I'll start this off with a relatively easy one, but I expect there to be some real show-stoppers posted along the way. Any questions, feel free to ask. I'll happily modify the game as needed for the most participation, and the greatest level of education.
I probably should have started with one just a little tougher, but @Paddy54 wins it (in the first few minutes), and get a point and the privilege to post. STANDINGS: Paddy54 - 1 point
If we don't need a variety @Paddy54 just soft pitched the last one: Shield Nickel , no mint mark (Philly), 1868
Well, the way I had the game in my head, the image would should an identifying point of the variety, and based on that, we would ID the coin, the year, and the MM if any. Sort of how I did it in the first post. So ideally, the entire coin image would not be posted, since (as @ddddd noted), it would be easy to ID the variety if we know the coin. For @Paddy54 's nickel, my guess is: 1868 Shield Nickel with a DDO. Still trying to narrow down which DDO it is though.
That makes sense. So based on the variety, you'd have to figure out the coin, date, MM, and which variety it is. But, a winner could still be names if they can get the first 3. I would imagine if we have some folks posting 1800 Large cents, determining the variety may take a few weeks!
Then I would say the one closest. If the only thing that was correctly guessed was the coin type, then the first person to post that would be the winner. Or if only 2 of the 4 are guessed correctly, or only 3, etc. But it's also the posting person's option to call it whenever they want, if they feel either no additional time will help, or if it has been correctly ID'd at some point. 24 hrs isn't a hard and fast rule.
In this case the entire coin needs to be viewed to determine the correct answer. And so far you're on the wrong train......
If I'm on the wrong train, then I think I have an idea of the train I should be on. But, I'm not going to guess again, as I think that would be unfair. One guess per player sounds about right.
Thanks for this. I was able to do a search for it and finally found a Shield Nickel Variety list with photos. Am I allowed to take another guess?
No prob. I wonder if ai either got the wrong variety (maybe its FS-902 (FS-002.95) and DDO or RPD?) or if he’s asleep!
