Going through some coins that my mother-in-law had brought a while back, I came across this 1/2 1783 reales. Not exactly sure on how to gauge its shape as it was probably disregarded for a very long time. IMG_1010.JPG IMG_1011.JPG

Some great 8 reales here. Moneditis, I recognize that 1759 G from the cover of a recent T&F auction catalog, nice pickup. Here are some from the only four Spanish colonial mints I can afford to buy pillar 8 reales from:

Potosi (Upper Peru, now Bolivia), 1769, assayers JR.
    BOL_1769_P-8-3b.jpg
    Guatemala, 1756, assayer J.
    GUA_1756_G-8-3b.jpg

    Mexico City, 1734/3, assayers MF.

    Lima (Peru), 1760, assayers JM.

I looked through a large group of fake portrait 8 reales last year and noted that the 'stressed planchets' were reproduced in some of the fakes. However, the edges of the cracks were smoother and rather than deep fissures, they were quite shallow. So close inspection is a must.

Nice to see you post, acanthite:). It has been a while.
Beautiful selection 8 reales you have there. You have a good eye.

I have not added anything major in this area for a while, but I did manage to find this 1 real 1762 from Guatemala a while back. I wanted a Guatemala mint minor as they seem to be quite scarce.

Likewise, good to see you are still here Eduard. Great 1762 1 real, hard to find a nice Guatemala minor without a hole in it. In fact that's one of the nicest for that date to show up in auction for years. Jose Herrero, I think.

@moneditis Those are some fantastic Reyes Catolicos pieces!

Totally forgot about this thread. Here are some additions since the last time I posted.
