Guys, can we try to filter out the woo woo stuff, please?

When I come to discuss coin collecting or bullion investing at CoinTalk, I am looking for straight information from people who know what they are talking about. Let's empathize with each other over milk spotting. Let's talk about the great deal we just got. Let's share reviews of online dealers. However, not a day goes by where someone doesn't spout some woo woo nonsense about the demise of the world economy and how we will need precious metals when it collapses. Other people talk about the historical gold-silver ratio, and how it is off kilter now and must adjust. Other people talk about images of aliens on ancient coins. Really? REALLY?! I feel like I am reading threads sometimes with people posting who have been brainwashed by tv gold hawkers or can't stop listening to infowars.

I would appreciate a little more logic and rationality, not fringe talk and bunk investing advice.

I like the woo woo. It rhymes with choo choo and I like trains. Personally, I enjoy the things you state you don't. It all goes with the forum and its members and no one is breaking the rules that I know of. Please try to enjoy it as it is for what it is.

I think a forum full of people who are only interested in exactly the same things I am, and only hold the same opinions I do, would get really boring after a while.

 

CT should be all business and no fun. Get with the program, people.

Let's not escalate this. As old timers know, the forum owns threads once posted. No one can start a thread, including this one of course, and limit individuals or viewpoints unless they conflict with the rules, One may suggest the author of a post to ask a moderator to move it to a more appropriate subforum, such as move an ancient coin post there, rather than leave in error coins. but it up to the moderators as to what will be done. But as to moving posts that may conflict with the intent of the original poster, that is only up to the staff. The 'report' key at the bottom of the thread can be used for any comments to moderators. The rules must be maintained at all times. The basic rules are you can disrespect 'positions ' of a post , but not disrespect the poster even though they are anonymous, but this goes both ways. Yes , many are uninformed, many are young, many are old, many are of set minds,and many are grumpy or think they are Monty Python , so you can argue the positions, but do not take things personal and blow up, report your concerns and let the moderators settle it. I also like seeing/hearing about trains, aliens, medal detector finds, cats, and what other people also collect other than coins, and of course their other hobbies. I find those people interesting.

I would like to know more about you. how old are you ? where are you from ? what coins/medals do you collect ? In time you will find other peoples opinions fun. yes there are some out there that can be mean, but that doesn't mean they do not want to help you. If they continue to be mean to you there is an ignore button. press that and you will not see posts from that person again. I have only used the ignore button once. never regretted it either.

 

My other hobby is model trains and well travelling on steam pulled trains. So Choo Choo atchoo

 

I truly hope you come around to enjoying everyone's occasional well intentioned nonsense on here @myownprivy. There are lots of good folks on this site that are all glad to talk shop with you and we are all glad to have you. Of course sometimes we just like to have fun. I shall now leave you with this...
