He's already on two other sites I'm a member of... and he got suspended on one of them for his actions 2 1/2 weeks ago.
LOL, should tell ya something. I'm a member on another site but has been a while since I've been there. I like CT theres some great people here. I'd hate to see it go down the crapper as some other forums have.
I have no issue with him posting, but he has taken so much space in CRH forum. 8 of 20 threads are his, that's 40% of the page! The next closest is 2 threads by someone else. Can his videos not be condensed into fewer threads!?!?!?!
As I just posted in another thread, there are ways to fix this where everyone, including Silver Searcher, is happy. I hope the mods will look at my (and other people's) suggestions.
I hope so as well. It used to be you came to CRH forum to share pictures of and discuss your finds. Now, I go there and it's a thread with a video, followed by endless bickering and harassment. SMH
Same here... Part of what I get out of this place and other forums is the joy in sharing the thrill of the find. The actual conversation and interaction is the best part. Others feel that same joy, and express it here. It makes it fun, and encourages me to keep hunting!
I guess I'll jump in. I'm with john77, there are threads that should be moved to different forums. some of the bullying is going too far, he's just a kid. But it feels like spam, all the new threads. and now we have a new sticky that's above the CRH FAQ sticky . Should only have/need one sticky in the subforum .
It may be a grey area for you but it is not a grey area for me at all. That is because, long ago when we were making the rules for this forum, Peter and I discussed the issue at length. The issue was this, would we allow posts with links to informational style web pages found on a given website when those pages also contained links to the sales portion of the same website ? The answer we decided upon was yes, we would allow it. Because the link posted here on the forum did not lead directly to the sales part of the site. Now of course you guys aren't aware of that, there's no way you could be. But I am because I was one of the two people who decided what the rules of this forum would be, how they would be interpreted, and how they would be enforced. You are also not aware that back when this first started that I examined Silver Searcher's YouTube page at length to find out if he was indeed breaking our rules in any way. My conclusion, given our parameters, was that he was not. If he is, or has, then I have not yet seen one. But if you have a link to one as an example I'd be happy to look. That said, our rules about posting on topic are intentionally designed and enforced loosely so as to allow members as much latitude as possible in that regard.
I would remind all of you that we do have an ignore button. If you don't like the kid's posts - simply use it. Of course you could also use your own self control and simply not click on his threads - just like you do with every other thread on this forum that you don't care to read. Of course you could also use a little common sense and realize that when someone is screaming for attention the way the member you're all complaining about is doing, the last thing you want to do is give him that attention ! And that is exactly what you are doing with all the noise you are making about this ! When you want someone to go away, you simply ignore them and they do go away. The bottom line is this, every member of this forum has the right to make posts on this forum - as long as those posts stay within our rules. Other members not liking those posts don't have anything to do with it. I can absolutely guarantee you, each of you, that there are and have been many times where other members did not like what you yourself posted at one time or another, and sometimes many times. And yes, many of you have had your posts reported. But yet your posts were not removed, you were not banned from the the forum. Do you know why ? Because I insist, absolutely insist, that the rules of this forum apply - to each and every one of you, no matter who you are or how long you've been here, or how popular you are, or how unpopular you are - and are applied and enforced equally and fairly at all times ! And if you think for one second that that isn't so, then please feel free to ask any of the moderators on this forum - the people who enforce those rules. And they themselves will tell you what my record on the matter is.
If will have to temporarily pull him off my ignore list to re-look at his posts. I'll give you the links when I'm done.
I can't believe the comments I've seen directed to or about Silver Searcher with this. You're attempting to conduct an investigation towards this user over what, that he might be trying to make a few bucks? What's your end goal, to try and get this enthusiastic young user and his videos banned? That's rather dubious and low. Even if he were successful in generating some revenue, that's his private business. I'd much rather he try to make a little income from producing these videos and searching coins than doing something else, such as joining a street gang or dealing smack on the streets.
No, that's not it at all. If you read my posts on the other threads, you'll see that I want everyone to be happy. Earlier in this thread, this is what I said: "He often posts stuff to the "Coin Roll Hunting" thread/forum that has NOTHING to do with Coin Roll Hunting. This is not being dealt with. Threads of his which should be moved to a more appropriate thread/forum aren't being moved." The post you quoted was in a response to a mod's response to that post.
Thank you for clarifying. Let's say the post is still valid toward the haters on here in general who as far as I'm concerned are causing unnecessary strife and problems because all they have to do is exercise their right to mute or otherwise ignore the threads if they don't like them.
Outside of the BST? Perhaps we're simply not viewing the same threads, but generally speaking I don't see the posting of links to personal sites "all the time" or even often for that matter. It's perfectly relevant, sir; the question is if they're against the rules or not. Doug says no, but remember the old saying about how Rome wasn't built in a day? Just because he's not likely to be making much now, this in no way overshadows the fact that this is his goal. In a recent post of his where he links his main YouTube channel, when opened there's a video in which he not only begs for money and tries to justify why it's okay (so he doesn't have to spend his coin money), but also shows him watching a video on how to work his advertising revenue settings. Is this mere coincidence? There may be more but I've not bothered watching the entire dreadful thing. Oh, the aforementioned link also contains political content (of his own). The latter isn't allowed (unless posted by a mod apparently) and links have been removed simply because of political content on the site, but I suppose he should get a pass here too? https://www.cointalk.com/threads/coin-roll-hunting-halfes-gold-and-silver.285404/
I like Silver Searchers videos..whenever I am weary and can't sleep I just start watching one if his very long videos and it helps me to fall asleep! It works!
Here are the three which I don't think have to do with "Coin Roll Hunting" or any sub-forum of it. I believe they should either be in "Coin Chat" or the "US Coins Forum" based on the content of them. The others, from what I can tell, are fine. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/top-ten-peace-dollars-key-dates-discussion-of-posts.285219/ https://www.cointalk.com/threads/10-most-valuable-nickels.285124/ https://www.cointalk.com/threads/buying-silver-hoard-from-estate-sale.284402/
