I've recently contracted gold/silver fever. [IMG] [IMG]

I put together a quick video of my newbie stack. Thoughts would be much appreciated.

I don't know whether you know it or not, but those cotton gloves can impart hairlines to the surfaces when you hold the coins like you are doing. You should use the same sort of care as though you were bare-handed and hold the coins by the edge.

Nice stash for 4 weeks! Although I'm worried you paid too much for some of the gold. If the dealer just gave you an ounce of gold on top it raises concerns on the premiumS he was asking for the stuff you bought. That said though I hate you right now. I have only about 6oz of gold in coin/bullion form... You suck :p

About the sealed monster box... open it! You may find errors that could be valuable like strikethroughs etc. Plus it's just down right fun and there's no premium for a sealed box on the open market, actually if you try to sell it whole the buyer will most likely want you to open it to verify the contents :)

Also, what show in cali? I'm in so cal... oh, and ps. This is the Internet so don't get to personal here or in your videos. Be EXTREMELY careful about that for obvious reasons.

I second the comment about holding the coins with the gloves. Try only holding the edges of the coins, and you won't need gloves. Nice coins!

Thanks for the quick feedback! Great forum here.

Will make use of the advice re: handling... newbie mistake on my part.

With respect to the premiums paid on the gold coins, it was ~$55 - ~$75 at the LCS... and a tad less at the coin show.

Do you tend to purchase more from online bullion dealers (provident, apmex, jm) or more from LCS'?

It really just depends where you are located, not everyone has a good LCS and no two LCS are alike. You can probably find a few in parts of the country that would always be the cheapest but everyone else not lucky enough to be near them that doesn't do much good for

Thanks. I have been using the major online bullion vendors (Apmex, Provident & JM). Thus far, they have not let me down. Any word of caution in using these dealers versus a LCS?

Awesome stack! But if you are anything like me, you may get bored buying too much modern uncirculated bullion. I transitioned from bullion to pre-33 gold. Just a thought. Best of luck.

All depends on the lcs. Find one and make friends with the owner and you'll score some pretty awesome stuff at not much more than they paid. But jm and the like are respected, reliable and you can buy with confidence. Though you pay a premium for that service...

I highly suggest you take a look at www.greatcollections.com I have bought many gold pieces from them, both modern and pre-33 for almost nothing over spot. It's an.auction and a gamble but if you put "shotgun" bids on multiple coins at around spot or even $50 under spot, for the common stuff, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you win :)

I too have a stash of mod. bullion, nice conversation pieces, beautiful coins, but I,m in agreement with Tyler. High grade pre-1933 gold is also beautiful, but has numismatic value and is not as vulnerable to market moves. When you sell your modern bullion, don,t expect much over spot prices unless they are top grade 70 coins. I have sealed rolls which I,ve never opened. Every time you touch a coin, you risk doing damage and your chances of finding 70,s are lessened.

I didn't watch your entire video, but it look like an impressive collection started. It's very important that you do not tell your friends and family about your holdings. While you may trust them, they may tell a third party who is not so trustworthy.

Also, remove your birthday and other personal information from all on-line postings. A quick look at your bio here and youtube channel already provides breadcrumbs to who you are and your location. Even the video itself gives clues your PM's are likely located somewhere in your home.

    I posted a thread a couple years back showing how to scrape location information from a photograph that was pulled from the this forum. I was nice enough to remove the coordinates and picture of the posters home from the screenshot. { https://www.cointalk.com/threads/protect-your-bullion.240775/ }

Thanks for the safety tips. You can never be too careful. (Even though my holdings are stored at a heavily guarded location, i dont want anyone to get the wrong idea) :)

I guess this is how the transition from straight bullion to semi numismatic/numismatic begins.

I get a really neat feeling while holding a 150 year old gold coin. Just think of where it,s been and who might have owned it or which bank vault it sat in....many of these are full of unimaginable history, a true numismatic treasure to behold and maybe pass down to family! They can only gain in value as the years pass, but your joy in owing them is priceless.
