HI Doug. Please read my new thread"sad indeed, but understandable. It would be a comfort for you to echo my voice to members, to not approach this subject with him, should he revisit the forums. All is well. Thanks. Tom

The grading company you mention is one of the "self slabbers". In other words a company with a guy working out of his garage or basement and pretending to be a grading company. The slab you have looks like this one -

These coins are typically all vastly overgraded and worth only a fraction of what a coin would be if it were graded by one of the respected grading companies like NGC or PCGS.

In other words - don't ever buy coins slabbed by one of these "self slabbers".

Sir: i purchased a few coins recently and they came in a "slab" smaller and lighter that one you would get from ngc's services. I have not been able to find the information from the "slab" on the internet. It has the date of the coin, amount of the coin, name of coin, then the initals nic pr70dcam(i assume that's the rating, not sure what nic means, with the number 215121332.482. can anyone tell me if they have ever heard of such a rating service or is this some sort of private label of sorts. I would appreciate any imput you may be able to can contribute.

Actually I no longer collect coins at all. My collections were sold some years ago. Now I only study coins and try to help others.

I didn't know you are a collector of World Coins. Your albums are really cool, do you collect U.S. or only non-U.S.

I'd be happy to try and answer, but I need to know what the question is first. What price ?

      Hello,
I just messaged De Orc to ask his opinion. Hopefully he will post somewhere on CoinTalk.
EBay notified me about a post on their sode of conduct, and I think it would be great to post somewhere on CoinTalk. I think everyone should know what goes on! It is posted in full on eBay Code of Conduct.
      Thank you,
      Chuck
Take a look at the pictures in these two listings in separate browser tabs:
280331149022 and 260379427649. Now go from tab to tab and compare the pictures. Does this look like the same coin? It was bought for $23 as an 1894-O and sold as an 1894 KEY DATE for $520.

Howdy Chuck - sure a reverse Proof could be done. It just requires preparing the dies correctly. Rather doubt they (the mint) will do it though.

And yup, the avatar is me indeed. Buddy of mine made that up for about 8,9 years ago - been using it ever since ;)
