Hey everyone. I was curious if anyone had any information about the status of this year’s AMCC auction? From what @Severus Alexander said, it seems like it was supposed to have been up by now, early-mid October. Was it delayed, perhaps due to the pandemic somehow? I messaged SA a few days back but haven’t heard anything yet. Apologies if this was already addressed somewhere. Thanks.

Also please feel free to post your past AMCC wins!

Lovely coin. I really like coins with temples and architecture in the reverse.

I have enjoyed participating in the first two auctions and look forward to the third.

Here’s a coin I have enjoyed having in my collection since I am a Constantine collector. It’s ex Zumbly. What a lovely example.

Amazing sand Patina in that example. I usually don’t like sand, but that one is awesome

@Gavin Richardson, it's an easy bet that for people who spend your amount of time with coins of Constantine, this won't be such a big deal. But from here, the moustache on your example is striking. Could the Antioch mint be a factor in that? It's easy to guess --along the lines other people here have mentioned for Roman provincials, more specifically for Syria (Vespasian in particular ...maybe?)-- that the die sinkers could be resorting to earlier designs, whether for Constantius Chlorus or from prototypes back to the Tetrarchy. 'What do you make of it, Holmes?'

That’s a good question. Early Constantine folles, say from around 306, especially in the east, feature him with a mustache. I’m not sure the die engravers quite knew what he looked like. By 312 or 313, he would certainly be a known entity. But he’s not controlling the Antioch mint. I think that’s either Licinius or Maximinus Daia at this time—I would have to check my sources. But that means those engravers might have a freer hand in representing the new western Augustus. Why they would opt for the mustache is still a lingering question. The possibility that they were basing new dies on older dies is an attractive one. Compare, for example, this issue from about 306 that I purchased recently from Valentinian. A sweet mustache on this scarce coin.

yes. I just snapped this photo a moment ago and was surprised that I hadn’t properly photographed it yet. You’ll have to wait until tomorrow though. It will be a nice little teaser. But not too much of a teaser. It’s a standard GPR follis. Genius reverse. But it’s pretty rare to have these so early from the east, with Constantine as caesar. I can’t imagine Galerius was too happy to see Constantine’s accelerated rise to power.

I love AMCC and can’t wait for #3. I believe the auction is still on but just delayed due to the time it takes to give proper attribution love to all the epic coins that will be featured. I’m sure @Severus Alexander will be along to clarify.

In the meantime here are my favorites from AMCC 1 and AMCC 2 respectively.

Thanks for starting this thread @ValiantKnight I two have been wondering what the status of AMCC #3 is. I've picked up some really nice chins from fellow CT members in the past two auctions.

This com is a rare Anglo-Gallic denier of Edward I that previously belonged to @Orfew and is the most numismaticly interesting coin of the bunch. It was minted using the pattern of the old deniers that were minted when he was prince of England, his father Henry III was king, and governed Aquitaine as duke. Yet the legends of this coin name Edward as king, making it part of a very small coinage, only 20-30 examples survive, that was struck after he became king in 1274 but before he had a new denier struck in 1285. Very cool for those of us that are fans of Anglo-Gallic coins.

Sorry folks, and thanks for your patience! (Especially to my consignors.) For pandemic-related reasons, my day-job tasks are taking twice a long as usual, or more... with the result that I'm not getting enough time to work on the auction. I'm constitutionally incapable of doing a rush-job on it, but it will happen!! Again, my apologies for the delay.

But it makes me very happy that the posters above are enjoying their AMCC coins. Here's one that I won myself that I'm pretty pleased with:

S.A., Thanks for the update :D. Aside from your auction I've got consignments in two other auction houses, including a large consignment to CNG that will go down near the end of the year. Despite thinning out my collection I'm still adding new material :wacky:. It's worse than a crack habit :shame:.

@TheRed, good to see you resurfacing, for a minute! The rarity of that (ha) variant is mind-boggling, and nothing I'd ever heard of before. (Paragraph break necessarily ensues: )
I have a couple examples each of the Bordeaux issues of Edward as 'FILI REGIS' and 'REX.' One of the latter, at least, is worth looking at. ...Can't find the .jpgs to lower the rent, never mind save my life.
