"Follow The Leader" coin thread BY THEME (for ALL types of coins, tokens, and medals)

You may already be familiar with the epic "Coin Uno or Follow the Leader" thread or some of its spinoffs.

That one is based on the country or date of a coin.

This one is a bit simpler. Anything goes (coin, token, or medal, ancient or modern, dated or not), as long as it follows the same theme as the item posted before it.

So if someone posts a coin with a bird on it, and declares the theme to be "birds", the next person has to post a coin, medal, or token with a bird on it. See? Simple.

Simple, that is, as long as everyone keeps the themes themselves simple. So let's have themes like "birds" or "animals" or "aircraft" or "lions" or "mythical beasts" or "coins with holes in the middle" or "non-round coins".

Not overly-complicated themes like "Massey Ferguson GC1700 Series Tractors", OK?

Follow the leader and see what the theme in play is. If you can post an item with that theme, then you get to post a second item of your own to start a new theme.

If nobody follows a theme within 24 hours of its being posted, then anybody is free to post a new theme.

    Here.

Let's say I post this new purchase of mine.

I then declare the new theme to be "lions".

Turkey (Seljuq Sultanate of Rum): silver "Lion & Sun" dirham of Kaykhusraw II, AH 638 (1240-1241 AD)

So assume someone else then posted another lion coin.

(Here, I'll do it with another one of my newps.)

Switzerland (Zurich): silver "city view" 1/2-thaler (1 gulden/36 schillings), 1739
    [IMG]

So if I was the player who just posted that second "lion" coin (successfully "following the leader"), I could then post another coin to declare a new theme.

So now that I get to post a new theme, let's do "ships" next.

United States: bronze Civil War token, "Our Little Monitor" type, 1863
    [IMG]

So the next player has to post something with a ship on it to "follow the leader".

Then he or she may post a second item and declare a new theme of their own. Get it?

In the unlikely event that 24 hours passes with nobody posting a ship-themed piece, then it's open for anyone to start a new theme of their choice.

But for now, it's "ships" to the next player. Anybody wanna follow the leader? :)

    @alurid - excellent!

You now get to post a second item and declare your own new theme. :)

    What'll it be?

May others post while we wait for the new theme?

Since @alurid never dropped the other shoe, go ahead. Wouldn't want the "stalled for 24 hours" rule to go into effect just as we're getting started.

The theme is still ships. Whoever posts a ship coin or token next may then start the next theme, or continue with ships.

Was considering posting a Walking Liberty half, but thought I could find a slightly healthier tree:

    @Dave M - what's your new theme?

    Edit: never mind.

New rule: if someone follows the leader but fails to choose a new theme, we simply continue along the same theme.

    Since @Dave M didn't name a new theme, I'll match @Volante, 'stache for 'stache.

    Continuing with mustaches:

Oh sorry, I thought changing the theme was optional.

Yes, it can be optional. The player may choose a new theme or continue the old one (or do nothing, I suppose, which continues the old theme.)

But since you've made the theme holes:

(Yes, there's a hole. It just had a jewel mounted in it.)

    New theme: flowers.
