    Great pic.

Yesterday there was a pretty red cardinal eating the cat food we put out for the Driveway Kitties. (We put it on top of the trash cans so stray dogs and ‘possums don’t get at it.)

I wasn’t fast enough on the camera- the cardinal flew away just as I was raising my phone. But a red-bellied woodpecker swooped down just a second later.

When the cats leave leftover food, it becomes a bird buffet. Mostly cardinals and woodpeckers- they love the cat food and will even snatch some with the cats nearby! Occasionally the blue jays- and once in a while, a mockingbird- will get in on the act as well.

Enter me please for the 1942 coins.
It is a nice example of coins from that year.

This bought a lot in 1942.
    I saw these facts online:

White bread cost 8.7 cents for one loaf in 1942,

A pound of butter cost an average of 54 cents in October 1942,

Eggs cost an average of 58.8 cents a dozen in October 1942,

A pound of apples cost an average of 6.2 cents in October 1942,

A head of lettuce cost an average of 13.9 cents in October 1942.

We used to do that also, but the raccoons took it all. The only thing we can leave out now is bird seed. Nice video though. Regards.

Oops, I forgot to do the drawing this morning. Early Saturday AM when I’ve finished my chores in the hotel back office is usually the best time for me to do the drawing. (There’s a decent desktop PC, keyboard/mouse, and better connection speed at work.)

But I caught a whole golf group checking out at the end of my shift, so the rest of my time at work had to be used for… work. Ugh. ;)

Let me fire up the PC at home and open the random number generator and get crackin’ on that. We need to give @masterswimmer ’s Round 2 1942 coin set away and see what @Randy Abercrombie has in store for Round 3! :)

Thank you, @Randy Abercrombie for putting this up as a prize.

I will enter for round three for @Nyatii --- gorgeous coin and (I am sure) a wonderful silver certificate but I think maybe he will appreciate these more than I will at this stage in my coin collecting life.

Kasia - You are too kind. Thank you! I sure to appreciate the extra chance, and I do like the Ben Franklin halves very much, and silver certificates are always special.

Ben is actually a distant relative.

Enter me please for the Franklin Half and the certificate.
Both are nice and full of history.

Thank you Randy Abercrombie for your generous gift for the contest.:)

I was reading about Ben Franklin today and I learned something new.

Ben Franklin had a son named William Franklin.
William was loyal to England and their relationship was broken over the Revolutionary War.

William was the last Royal Governor of New Jersey.
He was also imprisoned by the US Patriots during the Revolutionary War. He was exchanged and ultimately emigrated to England, and William and his dad Ben Franklin never reconciled their differences.

I thought it was interesting to learn something new about Ben Franklin. It was sad that they let the war come between them and they never reconciled.

Yes, that is a sad-but-interesting story. I had heard a little about it.

Congrats @dano. Shoot me a PM with your coordinates and I'll get your bounty shipped, ASAP.

Yes, that's a sad fact. But it pales to the family discord during the unjustly named 'Civil' War, where fathers, brothers, sons, et al took their differences to the point of shooting one another. For the record, no matter the animosity, MY son walks away from that confrontation.

I'll enter round 3...just realized that my 1797 tuppence cartwheel is "coin orientation" rather than "medal orientation" like modern British coinage...when did they switch?
