I want in on the 1942 circulated set.
I have always been interested in wartime coinage and currency. Steel cents, war nickels, North Africa and Hawaii overprint notes. All of this brought on by material shortages or fear of loss of territory makes for interesting collecting.
I am hoping to one day add a “short snorter” bill to my collection if I am lucky.

thank you as always for running these contests!!!

That's a neat set, I'd probably stick it in a Capital holder. Thank you @masterswimmer!

If I win, please send it @Kasia 's way as a nod to her father.

I would be elated if I were picked to win this set. In 1942, my Dad had enlisted in the USMM.

He contracted polio as a child, and his left leg was about an inch shorter than his right, and the calf muscle was very atrophied. He wanted to serve his country and the Merchant Marines were the only service that would accept him.

His first deployment was on a troop transport for Operation Torch for the invasion of North Africa in Nov. 1942. This set would be an awesome tribute to that.

Also, the Merchant Mariners' were not even considered veterans until 1988, and then they only got very limited benefits.

Thank you, @masterswimmer, for donating this awesome piece of history.

I want the 5-piece circulated set of 1942 US coins from the Philadelphia Mint.
In 1942 my father was getting ready for his part in IMG_2312.JPG WWII.
He was in the Engineers and would be with the very first at Normandy, clearing the way for the invasion.

Entry Post: Thank you @masterswimmer for this prize. Silver is like crack to me. I have never seen some that I didn't want. If I don't get a weekly fix I go into withdrawls.

I’m going to throw in an extra bonus entry for @EdGs here. That was a cool post.

Hopefully nobody will object if I also add a bonus entry for @Nyatii here as well. (OK, I’ll stop putting my finger on the scales, now.)

I also have a 1942 WW2 family memory, as it happens.

I keep my grandfather’s WW2 deployment medal with my collection. He was Dr. Logan Robertson (1916-1987). As a doctor, he served stateside, at MacDill Army Airbase in Tampa, FL, where my mother was born in January of 1944.

This is how I remember him, at his farm in the NC mountains, in the 1980s. The farm was called Big Butte, but Granddaddy found it amusing to spell and pronounce it “Big Butt”, so everyone else had to do the same. He had a roguish sense of humor.

Grandfather. My Dad was born in ‘38, so he was just a kid during the war. Old enough to still have stories about it, though.

Thank you very much, @lordmarcovan. Loved the story of your Grandpa, too. Everyones WWII connections are special. That generation was truly amazing. Incredible sacrifices and co-operation by so many.
