Why not toss up a few photos, contact info, and an asking price while you're at it, Leeroy? Oy...

You know what they say about how it takes one...

Ask not what you can do for you, but what you can do for your country....so very many implications.

He apparently hasn't viewed eBay completed Gold coin sales, which are generally well above "Grey Sheet", and quite considerable in volume.

Lately, I'm constantly being outbid on certified Gold coins where I've placed a PCGS price guide suggested retail bid.

I often make reasonable established market offers on Gold coins which have been offered repeatedly without a sale, but never if they are greater than 15% above average market pricing. My normal offer is less than a 6% discount, and more than half of my offers are accepted.

I suspect pricing and items offered may be the problem, as I offer some of my past quality acquisitions at less than average market pricing, and virtually never have a problem eventually locating buyers.

From what I can tell -- no reference intended to the OP -- quality coins on eBay sell and get lots of competition during auctions. Less than quality sits there and draws dust, along with the overpriced ones.

Yea looks like he's hit a rough patch. We've all been there. Not making excuses for his ranting and pouting but eBay can be frustrating. I can't speak for his situation either but if what @SuperDave @V. Kurt Bellman and others have said is true about him selling cleaned coins and subpar coins then he is not helping his own cause.

I will say this, and it took me longer to realize than I care to admit... you cannot rely on eBay. I now realize I was naive to think I could actually grow a decent self sufficient store on eBay without interference from eBay themselves. Even if you have it all figured out for the moment and are killing it things can change from one day to the next. I guess that goes for any website or selling platform though.

There was a time where a small timer could make good consistent money with auctions but those days are over. eBay's computers now manipulate search and featuring so that sales and bidding distribution is spread out more evenly. This is good for buyers but not good for sellers. I am absolutely convinced that eBay throttles sales. There is no other explanation for the consistent pattern of days with sales to no sales. And the clincher is that when the sales do happen they all come from the same region of the country.

Another reason auctions are no longer as effective is the big sellers have more control. I'm talking about the Platinum level sellers - as in the guys that sell in the millions of dollars. They get little or no throttling from eBay. But even these guys don't leave auctions up to chance! They hire programmers to tap into eBay's API and schedule what is essentially known as shill bids to not only drive up price but create artifical interest.

Then when you take into account that there are more sellers on eBay than ever and more buyers are snipping than ever, the little guy stands almost no chance at making consistent profit on eBay.

I'm not saying the big guys are all evil, heck I would probably do the same thing if I could. And again I'm not saying oh poor little seller has every right to cry. I'm just saying there's a lot of shenanigans going on, especially at the top, so lets not totally kill the little guy when he vents some frustration. That's all.

He started things off by insinuating that "eBay buyers are cheap skates" and "want something for nothing". I don't mind paying and paying a premium for a coin that that I feel is worthy...such as the recent St Gaudens DE I bought.
    I wish him well on...Amazon.

Well, Bellman, I've sold enough on Amazon to make it worth my while. I have no idea what you collect; my collection is eclectic and is mostly foreign but includes proof sets of many foreign nations as well as the USA. What is substandard to you may be another collector's treasure.

Our government does stink in many ways but, if your age is indeed 70 (according to your CT profile), I think it unwise to delay drawing on your third pension for much longer. While you may not like paying taxes on it, if you don't start drawing on it soon, it way well outlive you.

I suppose if that pension benefit is transferable to a survivor, that's not so bad . . . hopefully, you already checked into and confirmed that.

Yes I have and I intend to leave it to my heirs except for the minimal extortion withdrawals I have to make. I have also complained to my Congressman and Senators about the 70 1/2 year old "minimum distribution rule."
