Someone is selling a 1900 O morgan...for $50...redbook says vf-20 goes for $65 what do you guys think its worth
@JakeTheBarber401 Do not use the Red Book for pricing information. You are better off using completed sales from eBay for this coin. Welcome to the neighborhood, Jake! Chris
This is an issue so common you can afford to wait for someone selling it much cheaper than that. Any value above melt for a well-worn 1900-O (aside the rarer varieties) is purely subjective on the part of the buyer; they're not "rare" in any sense of the word. Yes, just about all Morgans have added numismatic value, and can't often be found for melt, but there's no reason to reach for this one.
One other thing: You mentioned the Red Book value of $65. The Red Book contains a lot of useful information, and I strongly recommend new collectors buy the latest and read it from cover to cover. The least useful information in it is the prices, particularly as a guide to retail values of common coins. If you want to see what a reasonable value is for a 1900-O Morgan in VF, do an advanced search on eBay to see what previous sales have brought.
$65 is the Red Book value for a 1900-O/CC in VF, which is still a little high. If yours is not a 1900-O/CC, but just a 1900-O, then $25 is the going rate.
Because that's rather more than the coin is worth, for the reasons Cascade stated. It's not quite "post a thread to tear this seller a new one" bad, but that's a coin I would not pay $35 for.
Unless I'm missing something, I would expect to see an uncirculated coin for $60. This one is circulated with serious problems.
