Apparently, a pair of high relief Peace Dollars were discovered recently and have been graded by PCGS. Just got this e-mail from Goldberg auctions: I guess that PR67 is gonna bring a hefty price tag. Anyone wanna guess?
Wow, amazing find. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 67 crack the $1 million mark either. Also, once this gets picked up by "MSN" and other main stream news sources...I also predict a flood of new members posting about their "rare" 1922 Peace Dollar.
Yupp. Also a lot of "rare" 1922 Peace Dollars will appear on E-bay for wildly insane prices. I will be glad to sell this one for a bargain of $750,000
Read this old thread ( many others also ~use search) http://www.cointalk.com/threads/1922-peace-dollar-high-relief-and-low-relief-confused.46564/ and read post #15 for specific details.
Boy, that PR67 is a killer! But, I'd have to knock $100 off the price for the discoloration on the rim. Chris
This really is an amazing discovery. I'm excited, Peace Dollars were one of the first series I got into when I was starting out. I still love the design of these coins, so much so that if I had that kind of money, that 67 would be mine. I actually thought the same thing. That coin looks off and circulated. Proofs are stupid hard to grade from pictures, let alone from what appear to be high quality scans. Anybody have any ideas on how to explain the PR64's appearance?
I bet the person that paid a bazillion dollars for a PR66 is not thrilled right now. The available population just increased by 25-40%.
That's the risk you run with coins like this...however, the fact that it is known that only 8 were produced limits the damage.
That's a PR-64? It doesn't look worn but it doesn't look like it did when it was new. I don't understand why a tiny bit of wear will cause a coin to grade lower but a completely miscolored coin can grade over 60. Don't get me wrong, I love this coin because I love coins with patina, and this silver dollar is oozing patina. It's lovely but I just don't understand grading.
If the matte finish coin would have shown up here raw, I would have questioned whether it had been dipped.
