Don't have one to toss into the pot here, but nice pick up, Steve. Some of these 'Caesars' are going to take me forever to add.

Nice choice Steve. I recognize that seller's pics, and they are quite dark. If you don't have the coin in hand yet, you'll be surprised at how much brighter it is than the pic when you get it. It's not as dirty and rugged as it looks.

I keep an eye out for them too just because everybody seems to want one. I don't understand why they are so expensive-- at any given point in time there are several up for auction or sale. From an availability standpoint they don't seem terribly scarce.

$230 shipped from spain is what mine cost. More then happy with the price. May not be the best shape, but sure beat the $400 average he tends to go for.

Probably not the thread, but so far I do have 8 of the twelve Caesars in Bronze:

    Augustus, Tiberius
Caligula, Nero, Claudius (need to be switched when I redo image)
    Galba, Vespasian, Domitian

Ugh, I wouldnt even attempt doing bronze on top of the silver. Mine is already a mix due to being a budget collector. This show the old galba, owell.

Congrats - I'm still searching for a Galba! (and Vitellius, Claudius, and Caligula... but I keep working to add more and more Neros and Augustii, so I suppose that makes up for my belated Twelve Caesars completion :) )

There's nothing wrong with mixing metals, and I wouldn't say it indicates you being a budget collector or not: there are some types in different metals which are very interesting. A mixed metal set is the most practical solution for me, outside of building three different collections.

I love to see what you would come up with for a mixed metal collection, but one of each metal would be incredible. Considering the level of prov., research, and quality, to do so would be an educational and rewarding experience for you and the numismatic community.

    Great posts!!!

I think the mixture of metals/denominations makes for an even more interesting visual display, let alone all the 'history' behind each piece---and my budget makes it difficult to do otherwise as well...so mine are a bit of all types too.

I'm still missing an affordable 'OTHO'---as well as a few other scarce/rare Emperor examples beyond the 'TWELVE' ....and the hunt goes on.
