Buffalo Nickels for me. Everything else is just fighting for second place :)

The arrows&rays reverse is one of my favorites of all time as far as one side of a coin is concerned. And the toning to boot... what a beauty!

The $10 Indian is my favorite by far. (love the design of the war bonnet) Plenty of competition for second place though....Standing Lib quarter, Trade Dollar, Morgan Dollar and even the 2 cent piece gets high marks with me.

I know there's a lot the flowing hair silver and liberty cap cent especially head of 94 make my short list too I do like walkers I like Morgans too the a&r eagle reverse is great too I like the st gaudens 20 eagle as well most of the early designs are classics not many I don't like just as there's not many newer designs I do like

All great coins deserving to be in the top 10 but you're missing the SLQ, which really has a very special design - it's my favorite quarter.

I have just received one this week and need to share it with you guys:

Just figured you only listed 8 coins so I guess we can simply add the SLQ to the top 10 list :)

LOL. You must not have seen my thread about the SLQ. While I respect people's choices, I do not find this coin to be in my top 10. I think the obverse is way too busy. With the round shield, I keep thinking of Capt. America walking out of a witness stand. I do like the reverse on the coin.

I still pick the st gaudens $20 the draped bust any denomination and the trade dollar as my top 3 with a close third to the Gobrecht dollar which is technically a pattern with jpcienkus list above I disagree with a couple which is why this thread is a matter of opinion I absolutely hate the Indian 2.5 and $5 gold my all time least favorite gold design but that's just my opinoin and why there's something for everyone in coins :)

As to the standing quarters for a 20th c design the type one is in the top 5 I'd probably say 4th behind st gaudens $20 walking half and Indian $10 not as big of fan of the type 2 especially as their so often poorly struck

The incuse design of the Indian $2.5 and $5 is very different and very striking most people from the time they were made either loved them or hated them I'm in the second camp I love the classical beauty of the st gaudens $20 of the same period more than any other us coin this is only my opinion and I expect people will disagree that doesn't make them wrong coin designs and design in general is very subjective their all still leaps and bounds better than any presidential coinage

I read through all the replys, and I didn't see anyone choose the obverse of the Lincoln cent, Jeff nickel, Roosevelt dime, Wash quarter or Kennndey half as a favorite.....funny, but why can't the mint get it? Enough of the presidents, and revert to the classic liberty designs.....That said, my favorites are:
    Buffalo nickel
    Walking Lib. half dollar
    Standing Lib. quarter

I am with you, we had all the emporers and kings on the German Reich coinage... and even later in the 20th century there were still way too many leaders on the coins.

I'm in the opposite camp when it comes to the Indian quarter and half eagles. I really love this design. FYI, it's my understanding this is a "sunken" design, not incuse. That's taken from the Red Book Professional edition.

My bad on the technical term I can see why people like them too is a very striking design I just personally prefer the pretty ladies on my coins ;) that being said I do sometime need to pick up a really great example of both for my gold type set but I have higher priorities

While it is not my cup of tea, I recognize the Buffalo Nickel as one of the most beautiful and uniquely American coins of all time.
