Yes, that is usually the case, but there are also times when I agree with the grade assigned by somebody other than a TPG - like an auction house - which was the case with that coin. I used it as an example because you asked for one and I could find it easily. Their grade was Superb FDC by the way, which for those who don't already know it translates into MS65 or higher. There's another that I can recall but it was some time ago. If memory serves it was $10 Indian graded 66, and I "think" it was in a SEGS holder. But I can't recall who posted it, or when.

As for your idea for a thread, yeah I'm game, but I don't think most others will be for the reasons you already suggest. That's why I stay out of most GTG threads or threads where someone is asking for a grade anymore - it seems most don't want to hear my opinion because it is not what they want to hear. And, all it does is start arguments - which is NOT why I offer my opinion.

When I offer my opinion on the grade of a coin it is to try an teach people something. To be able to know what they are seeing when they see it, and understand it, so they will know an accurately graded coin when they see one, and an over-graded coin when they see one of those. And it is most definitely not to teach them how grade like the TPGs do in today's world, but rather to teach them how to grade like the TPGs used to grade. And did for almost 20 years !
