@Treashunt see Frank had you thought of this ..... nah....Doug still wouldn't of given you a like! But he may have given you a To put on your boo boo!
Something numismatists have oozing from every pore - modesty and reticence to toot their own horn. [Now I hope you'll excuse me while I choke on that line.]
CAC is a waste of money. just 1 more sticker to say yes it is this grade. when will it end ? soon there will be a sticker to say CAC's sticker is ok, then a sticker for that sticker. and so on...soon there will be so many stickers on the slabs that it will cover the coin completely. waste of money period. buy the coin not a sticker.
Have you ever known ANY field, politics perhaps aside, where more people are so convinced of their correctness and wisdom?
It is my understanding that CAC approval signifies that the coin is in the top 1\2 or 2\3 for its grade and also cannot have surfaces that have been messed with. I've also heard that only 20 percent of submitted coins get stickers, not sure if that is true? For me the determination of originality is even more important than it being solid for the grade. That's probably why less than half of submissions get CACed even though a stickered coin can be only average for the grade.
1.Yes. 2.Yes at least the auction records say it does. 3. It varies. 4. Yes. For generics, CAC bids are sometimes useful. Some collectors are CAC sycophants and exhibit irrational exuberance when the "right" sticker is coupled with the "right" plastic. 5. I don't know or care about prestige (no rudeness intended).
I am not sorry. why waste more money on someone elses opinion ? it will not change the grade of the coin.
It might not matter to you, but when it comes time to sell, it may matter to other collectors. Any time you leave behind potential buyers or bidders, you are potentially leaving money on the table. For the right coin in the right plastic with a sticker, there are certain collectors/cohorts that will throw fistfuls of money out that would not have bothered without the sticker. I don't agree with it, but when it comes to liquidation, my only concern is return on investment.
if you are into coins just for investments you will never enjoy coins at all. some coins you can make money on. you really have to know what you are doing. more power to those that want the stickers. it would not change my mind at all. yes some buyers want that sticker. I myself am not into buying coins for investment. I am into buying coins for enjoyment/beauty, history. it doesn't hurt to know what the value of your coins are should you have to sell someday God forbid. To each his/her own. I guess it just comes down to very high end coins ???
Recognizing the value and potential value like he does doesn't mean he is just collecting for investment.
