Your hardest coin to grade

  1. Leadfoot

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

Incuse gold would be my #1.
I also find Buffalo Nickels and all Barber coinage difficult to grade -- primarily because I don't agree with the rules of thumb that grade these series.
Pre statehood Washington quarters are also difficult...Mike

I'd have to say Franklin halves for the reasons already stated.

Washignton Clad Quarters, especially, followed by the gold indians you mentioned. I have never graded a colonial ;)

Send me a Bars USA and I'll try to grade it in a few years.

My "CLEVER" remark is the coin I want to buy.

I WANT to see that the seller has SERIOUSLY undergraded the coin.

I am therefore going to dive in and save several (10's, 100's, 1000's, etc.) depending on the case.

I agree with the person who talked about AG/G grading. That is a science all in itself.

Depends on date and coin. Interesting.

Cwts can be very tough, especially to those unfamiliar with them. No real grading guidelines, hundreds of different dies produced by many diesinkers possessing a wide range of skill levels, many of the dies were reworked and used until they were unusable, and most with single or double digit populations so that there are few identical tokens with whcih to compare grades. The wide variety of metals used also comes into play.

    Ardatirion Où est mon poisson

    Sounds disturbingly like ancient coins.
